Tranmere to build momentum

Tranmere will secure a play-off place if they avoid defeat against Colchester, but Keith Hill’s men will want to get last weekend’s loss to Forest Green out of their system and create some momentum for the vital end-of-season games.

Rovers’ firepower has been seriously hindered by the loss of top-goalscorer James Vaughan to injury, but the ex-Everton hitman has a chance of contributing if his teammates can secure a top seven finish.

Colchester look to be ideal opposition to do just that with the U’s winless on their travels for five months.

Colchester will also be without skipper Harry Pell and winger Callum Harriott for the trip to the Wirral, leaving interim head coach Hayden Mullins short on options.

Mullins has overseen some improvement during his short tenure but they are still prone to an away-day no show, such as the 5-2 thumping by Oldham a fortnight ago.
