Tranmere vs MK Dons Predictions

When we look back on the story of League Two in 2018/19, the latter stages of how the campaign went will no doubt have a big impact on what direction that story will take. This weekend sees two sides who have been competing to earn a spot in League One next season go head to head as fifth placed Tranmere Rovers face off against third placed MK Dons.

It has been a remarkable return to the Football League for Tranmere Rovers following their promotion from the National League last year, and they have used that momentum to thrust themselves into a position where back-to-back promotions is a real possibility. A key factor in their strength this term has been their quality on home soil and given that just three away sides have managed to leave Prenton Park with all three points this season, Rovers will certainly be confident in their ability to underline their strength at home and claim another three points.

The latest side to attempt to claim that vital victory is an MK Dons side who are trying to bounce back into League One at the earliest opportunity. Despite an excellent first half to the campaign, the Dons dropped off the pace a little in the new year but they are still fighting hard to ensure they claim one of the automatic promotion spots. The visitors have an excellent offensive record which has no doubt helped them on their travels, but last weekend’s 2-0 defeat to league leaders Lincoln City will be a bitter blow to bounce back from.

The visitors may have a solid record on the road, but they have suffered seven of their 11 defeats on their travels. With this, coupled with the strength of the hosts on home soil and the fact that they have won each of their last five home matches, means that we think Tranmere should have enough to come out on top. However, the strength of the MK Dons gives us the impression we should proceed with caution and, with this in mind, we think backing Tranmere on the ‘Draw – No Bet’ market represents the best option.
