      Tranmere vs Yeovil Town Predictions

After the Boxing Day football, Tranmere Rovers sit 14 points and almost as many places above Saturday’s guests Yeovil Town in the League Two table. Tranmere have been up and down in recent weeks so they’ll be hoping that Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Morecambe marks the start of a strong patch of form. Fortunately for them, they’ve been at their best in front of the home fans, and that’s where they play again this weekend. A win against Yeovil could see them stood move into the play-off places going into 2019.

Yeovil Town have a battle of their own going on at the other end of the table. Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat away to Exeter didn’t help their position just outside of the relegation zone and this is yet another fixture that looks tough on paper. Darren Way’s men are now without a win in seven League Two outings, five of which have been defeats (D2 L5), and it is easy to see just where their main problems have been. Yeovil have conceded at least one goal in six of their last seven matches, which doesn’t bode well ahead of this tricky fixture.

Yeovil held Tranmere to a 0-0 draw at home when the two last met in October’s reverse league fixture, but it should be a different story here. Yeovil have taken all three points away from Tranmere in just one of the prior eight league meetings between them at Prenton Park and Rovers are proving a formidable force there this season too. Tranmere have won 8 of their 12 matches at home so far (W8 D3 L1), including taking the ‘W’ in six of their last seven (W6 D1).

All signs point towards the hosts to take three points and despite some of the pairs’ recent scorelines, we reckon the value also lies in this being a low scoring game. Tranmere have scored more than one goal in just one of their last four home matches across all competitions (three League Two and one FA Cup) and under 2.5 goals has also landed in 83% of their home matches too. Given the visitors’ poor overall form, both offensive and defensive, we’re going for a small home win. Our prediction: 1-0 Tranmere.
