Twente vs Go Ahead Eagles Predictions

Twente’s run of four straight victories was brought to a halt at Den Bosch last week, but Marino Pusic’s side still head into this Sunday’s top of the table clash with Go Ahead Eagles at De Grolsch Veste as favourites. The visitors picked up three points last week but in unconvincing fashion against second bottom Dordrecht, and they have questions to answer after a defeat to Telstar on match day 12.

Twente’s 2-1 defeat at Den Bosch meant they dropped to 4th in Eerste Divisie and were overtaken by The Blue White Dragons who extended their fabulous winning sequence to seven. But Twente will still feel they are in good shape overall having racked up four consecutive victories prior to that, and they go into this weekend’s game with Go Ahead just four points behind current leaders Sparta Rotterdam.

Marino Pusic’s side have won five of their seven outings at De Grolsch Veste this season and are building up a head of steam in Enschede having won their last three at home in all competitions, so they’ll really fancy their chances of responding this Sunday against a Go Ahead side who have looked vulnerable over the past fortnight.

Eagles’ momentum took a significant knock when they were outclassed 3-0 by Ajax in the KNVB Beker and they suffered a 2-1 reversal at Telstar on the back of that on match day 12.

John Stegeman’s charges returned to winning ways in Deventer last Friday but they had to rely on a stoppage time goal from Pieter Langedijk to spare their blushes against 19th placed Dordrecht – a side that had only claimed one point from six away games this season before their visit to Deventer.

So recent form suggests that Eagles may struggle in this one, and they don’t appear to be operating on the same level as in the opening weeks of the campaign when they stormed their way to the top of the standings.

Their record this term on the road is fair with ten points collected from six outings, but the concession of ten goals in their last five matches in all competitions is a real concern considering the hosts have smashed in 27 in their 13 league fixtures.

Twente’s status as narrow odds-on favourites looks just about right for this encounter then, and we’re confidently getting behind the 2009/10 Eredivisie champions to take a significant step forward in their quest to return to the top flight at the first time of asking.

The hosts have won nine of the 13 previous meetings between the clubs which further bolsters their claims this weekend, and we’re predicting a 3-1 success in their favour come full-time.
