Tip Reasoning

Twente couldn’t do enough to this season to retain their place in the Eredivisie and have been relegated to the second tier of Dutch football for the first time since 1983. Sunday’s hosts have failed to win enough games, score enough goals and keep enough clean sheets this season, so how ironic would it be if they managed to do all of those things in the final game of the season when it counts for nothing. Breda can afford to lose as long as its not by much and as long as Roda don’t pick up a big win at home to Den Haag, as there are three points and a ten goal difference separating the two sides as things stand.

When Breda played host to Twente in December the visitors picked up their one and only away league win of the season. A tight and tense first half ended goalless despite the best efforts of the hosts Breda, who dominated possession and created more goal scoring opportunities. However, it was the underdogs Twente that broke the deadlock three minutes after the restart through star player Assaidi who was set up neatly by former Brighton midfielder Holla. Breda were back on level terms in the fifty-ninth minute after the unlucky Bijen stuck the ball into the back of his own net. Just two minute later Assaidi was sent clear by Jensen to score his second goal of the game and restore Twente’s lead. The visitors held on to secure their first and only league win of the season, with insult being added to injury for Breda as their goalkeeper Bertrams was shown a straight red card in stoppage time.

With just two wins and four defeats from their last six matches it seems unfair to claim that Breda are the form favourites, but they are as Twente’s one win, two draws, and three defeats leaves the hosts a point behind Breda in the form guide. Luckily for Twente they have the home advantage and remain unbeaten against Breda in their last ten encounters, six of which have ended in victories. Now that they are down and out the pressure is off Twente’s shoulders and when this happens to a relegated side they tend to put in a much better performance as the crowed aren’t on their backs and they can play with more freedom.

Assaidi, who scored twice when the sides last met, top scores for Twente in the league with six goals and could return to haunt Breda on the final day of the season. Breda’s own top scorer Ambrose has ten goals to his name, but is likely to miss the game through injury which only increases the hosts chance of picking up just their sixth win of the campaign.

We’re confident that Twente will will now that the pressure is off, and with Breda’s top scorer possibly ruled out through injury their defence will be in for an easier time. As for a final score, we’re not getting carried away and think a 1-0 is about the best the home fans can expect on Sunday.
