Union Saint Gilloise and Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Union need to win and hope Club Brugge lose at home to Cercle Brugge to snatch the title, but second place is also up for grabs and the hosts will be determined not to relinquish it. Union have won three of their last five league games with BTTS landing in three of the last four while Genk have lost their last three on the road, but scored in each of their last two away games.

Union Saint Gilloise 2-1

Reason for tip

Union have scored exactly two goals in their last two games and a repeat of last week’s 2-1 win over Cercle Brugge could be on the cards for them. Genk lost 2-1 last weekend for their third defeat in a row, but they carry enough of a threat to score again here.

Union Saint Gilloise vs Genk Predictions

  • Union need to win and hope Club Brugge lose at home to Cercle Brugge to snatch the title

  • Genk have lost their last three on the road, but scored in each of their last two away games

Belgian title battle appears lost for Union

The Belgian title race has come down to the final day with three teams in the mix to grab some glory, but Union must beat Genk and hope for a huge upset elsewhere if they are to lift the trophy.

Club Brugge are in pole position, three points ahead of both Union and Anderlecht, which means just a point will do them at home to neighbours Cercle Brugge on Sunday.

The likelihood is that, with four wins from their last five at Jan Breydal Stadium, the leaders will get the job done and render the use of a helicopter to ferry the trophy between Bruges and Brussels redundant.

Second-place race is a major motivator

How Union might react to news of Club Brugge going ahead in their game impacts this match a lot as the hosts could lose heart if their rivals begin to race two or three goals clear.

That said, there is still a bit resting on who finishes second and third- which is the difference between a Champions League qualifying berth or entry to the Europa League, and with Anderlecht breathing down their necks, Union will still need to match or better the Mauves’ result.

And that is why it is still worth trusting the hosts to see off a Genk side that have been more miss than hit on the road of late, losing each of their last three road games.
