USA vs Guatemala Predictions
The United States started their campaign by absolutely hammering Saint Vincent in their opener, with a convincing 6-1 victory at home. The game started with a shock, Saint Vincent striker Oalex Anderson scoring after just 5 minutes, Attacker Bobby Wood responded in the 11th minute, before German born Fabian Johnson got the second, former Sunderland striker Jozy Altidore quickly followed suit getting the third. Geoff Cameron scored early into the second half before attacker Gyasi Zardes made it 5. Jozy Altidore got his second of the game to finish off the proceedings.
Their next fixture however wasn’t goal laden and resulted in a 0-0 stalemate away from home to Trinidad and Tobago. Chances were few and far between in this one.
Guatemala haven’t had much taste of success since their disappointment of 2014, as they were crowned runners up in the Copa Centroamericana. Similarly they started their qualifying campaign in a similar vein, coming runners up in a 1-2 loss to a strong Trinidad and Tobago side.
They were able to shake off the defeat when they faced group C minnows Saint Vincent and the Grenadines however beating them 4-0. Four different players scored for Walter Claveri’s side. Defender Stefano Cincotta opened the scoring, attacker Minor Lopez added to the scoresheet before another defender Dennis Lopez extended the lead to three. Gerson Tinoco rounded off a convincing victory with a fourth goal in the 81st minute.
They then went on to shock a USA side by winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Rafael Morales and veteran attacker Carlos Ruiz, both goals coming in the first 15 minutes of the game. The US bossed the game with 61% possession and tested the Guatemala goal with 5 shots on target, but were unable to score. This ended a 21 game streak spanning 28 years since the US had last lost to Guatemala.
As a result the USA will be keen to make amends for their poor showing in Guatemala last week, as has put threat to the qualification place. Guatemala won’t go down with a fight though, as they proved last week. We should see a pretty open game. Get both teams to score at 6/4 with bet365.
