Universitario vs Deportivo Capiata Predictions

Universitario managed a very impressive and completely unexpected 3-1 win at Deportivo Capiata last week to put them in a commanding position coming into the second leg of the game. They had just 37% of the possession in that game but managed to convert three of their ten shots on goal. Deportivo Capiata, on the contrary, had a huge 19 shots but only managed to find the net once.

This puts the Peruvian hosts in an excellent position heading into this game. They followed it with a fairly disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Sport Huancayo at the weekend though, and they have still only won two of their last 12 matches in all competitions.

At home they have won one, drawn two, and lost four of their last six games, and in their fairly regular Copa Libertadores history they have won three, drawn seven, and lost four of their 14 home games in the past 11 years.

Deportivo Capiata have considerably less history than their opponents. The Paraguayans were only founded in 2008 and this is their first ever Copa Libertadores campaign. They beat Deportivo Tachira to get this far, but despite their overall dominance at home last week, they have left themselves with a huge mountain to climb.

They did bounce back with a 2-1 win at Nacional Asuncion on Sunday though, leaving them with eight wins, six draws, and just one defeat in their last 15 games. Away from home they are unbeaten in seven matches and have won four of them, so there is a glimmer of hope for them yet.

Deportivo Capiata were incredibly unlucky to get defeated so comprehensively last week. To be honest they didn’t deserve to lose at all really, and considering their hosts overall poor form alongside their poor record in the Copa Libertadores, I think odds of 5/6 for a Deportivo Capiata Win or Draw Double Chance is a good backing here. I’m going for a 1-0 win for the visitors at 8/1 as well.
