USA vs Peru Predictions
They name what is definitely a weaker squad for this friendly from the one that was involved in the disappointing Gold Cup Semi-Final exit earlier in the Summer. It is boosted by the return of Tim Howard, who has ended his one year exile from international football. However Clint Dempsey, who was by some distance their stand-out performer in that tournament is missing, as are influential midfielders Michael Bradley and Kyle Beckerman.
12 players from the Gold Cup squad are not involved here so it is a severely depleted US outfit that will take to the field against Peru. Their opponents are a very useful side who impressed in Copa America where they claimed 3rd place and were only narrowly beaten by hosts and eventual winners Chile in the Semi-Finals.
Both countries will have one eye on World Cup qualifying as well as next summer’s Copa America which takes place in the United States but it is the Peruvians who will be the more confident side right now. Besides Howard, who isn’t guaranteed to come straight back into the eleven, you have to wonder where the outfield leadership will come from and Peru are capable of springing what should only be regarded as a minor surprise here.
Certainly at 21/20 they seem worth backing to get a result from this game. The South Americans don’t concede a lot of goals and it could well be a frustrating afternoon for a new-look USA strikeforce which may be headed once again by Jozy Altidore, who is far from prolific. The inexperienced quartet of Aron Jóhannsson, Gyasi Zardes, Bobby Wood and Andrew Wooten also competing for places up front.
USA may have some promising players but their side doesn’t inspire you with confidence right now. If Peru are bold they could really punish them but a more cautious approach is likely from them and a low scoring draw is perhaps the most likely outcome and you can back it to finish 1-1 at 11/2.
