Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

The USA need to go on the attack here as in all likelihood only a win will do if they are to progress beyond the group stages. They have scored three goals in two games and managed to make a breakthrough against Panama despite playing for most of the game with 10 men. Uruguay have eight goals in just two games so far so backing both teams to score appeals here.

Uruguay 2-1

Reason for tip

The USA may need a win but they are coming up against a Uruguay outfit who are slick on the counter. The visitors are also strong defensively, so back them to prevail 2-1 – potentially hitting a late winner as the Stars and Stripes throw men forward in search of a victory.

Maximiliano Araujo To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Maximiliano Araujo operates in an advanced position for his country, having spent most of last season as a fullback for club side Toluca, and has established himself as a key man in the Uruguay frontline. Araujo has scored in both group games so far and also has an assist to his name, and he can make it three goals in three games when La Celeste take on the USA.

USA vs Uruguay Predictions

  • USA probably need to win to avoid an exit.
  • Uruguay have scored eight goals in two games.
  • Maximiliano Araujo has scored in both of Uruguay’s games.

Win or bust for Stars and Stripes

The USA appeared on course to secure a place in the knockout round with a game to spare but they blew their chance against Panama.

Timothy Weah’s early sending off against Los Canaleros proved to be a hammer blow as the USA suffered a shock 2-1 defeat.

They must now at least match Panama’s result to reach the knockout stages and they face a Uruguay outfit who are yet to guarantee their own progress, although it would take an improbable set of results to see them eliminated.

Goals at both ends appeals

Uruguay look exceptional defensively but the USA simply have to go for this, rather than rely on the already-eliminated Bolivia beating Panama.

The Stars and Stripes were able to score against Panama despite being reduced to 10 men and are generally good for a goal at home, having scored in 10 of their last 11 games on US soil.

Uruguay look to be in fine scoring form with eight goals across two games and it is hard to see them drawing a blank here, so both teams to score appeals as our main bet.

USA could fall short

Uruguay probably don’t need to get anything from this game but Marcelo Bielsa should still name his best XI, or close to it, for this final group stage game.

La Celeste are set up to counter well, so they could take advantage of any American pressure and a 2-1 win for the visitors appeals after their dominant performances in their first two games.

Finally, a goal for Uruguay’s Maximiliano Araujo appeals as he has scored in both games so far. Araujo plays as a left-back for club side Toluca in Mexico but operates as part of a front three for his country and he has had plenty of chances, with seven shots in total in the Copa America, so back him to make it three goals in as many games.
