Vendsyssel FF vs Vejle Predictions
Vendsyssel play host to Vejle in the Superliga on Friday evening, with both sides having made steady starts to life in the top flight of Danish football. Vendsyssel have one more point to their name than guests Vejle after the opening four games of the new Superliga season, but the visitors won the Danish 1st Division and beat Vendsyssel twice in the previous campaign.
Vendsyssel started their first ever season in Denmark’s top division with back to back wins over OB and Esbjerg, but were brought back down to earth with a bang as first Nordsjælland and then AaB beat the newly promoted side without conceding a single goal.
The host’s squad is largely made up of Danish nationals, with just six players representing other nationalities. Seyi Adekoya is an American, Washington Brandão is Brazilian, Sander Fischer and Ninos Gouriye are both from Holland, Emmanuel Ogude represents Nigeria, and Moses Opondo hails from Uganda. There are no household names that would be familiar to those outside Denmark, but captain Alexander Juel Andersen has represented Denmark at all levels bar the first team and previously played for AGF, Horsens, and Viborg.
The opening two games of the Superliga season produced 3-2 wins for Vendsyssel, who have shown their scoring capabilities in the highest division in Denmark, but are yet to keep a single clean sheet. Czajkowski top scores for the home side with two goals in three league starts this season and will provide the hosts main goal threat on Friday.
Vejle Boldklubn claimed the Danish 1st Division title last season and in doing so booked their place back in Denmark’s top flight. Vejle participated in Europe during the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, having won the Superliga title five times and the Danish Cup on six occasions, making them a much more famous and established club than Friday’s opponents Vendsyssel.
Vejle’s return to the top flight saw them win their opening game against Hobro and follow that up with decent draws with Brøndby and AGF, before slipping to their first defeat of the season to the current champions Midtjylland.
As well as having two Brazilians, a couple of Chinese, and a pair of Swedish players in their squad, fans of Watford, Colchester, and Swindon Town should recognise the name Sean Murray, as the Irish midfielder played for all three clubs before making the move to Denmark.
21-year old Brazilian attacking midfielder Alan Sousa made his name in the Middle East before getting his chance to play in Europe with Vejle, and with 9 goals in 28 league appearances, the youngster was one of the key performers in Vejle’s successful promotion bid. The Brazilian has started life in the top flight of Danish football with a bang, scoring four goals in four games, so don’t be surprised to see him on the scoreboard once again this weekend.
We’re confident that both teams will score in Friday’s game and have backed the visitors Vejle to claim a narrow 2-1 win. Both teams have scored in four of Vendsyssel’s and five of Vejle’s last six matches (four in the Superliga and two pre-season friendlies). The last six meetings between the two clubs have each seen both teams score, but Vejle are unbeaten in their last three matches against Vendsyssel, beating them twice last season on their way to the 1st Division title.
