Villarreal vs Bayer Leverkusen Betting Tips & Predictions

Villarreal narrowly overcame Serie A giants Napoli in the first knockout round of the Europa League, with a 1-0 home win proving the difference as they drew 1-1 in Italy.

This draw pretty much summed up a rather flat period of form from Villarreal. They have only won one of their last five in all competitions and have drawn six of their last 11 outings. They also fell to a very disappointing defeat at home to Las Palmas on Saturday, leaving them seven points adrift of 3rd placed Real Madrid in 4th. Fortunately for them they have an eight point cushion over Sevilla below them thanks to a few excellent runs of form earlier in the season.

Bayer Leverkusen progressed in the Europa League in a much more comfortable fashion, winning both legs of their tie with Sporting CP and winning 4-1 on aggregate. But their domestic campaign isn’t going to plan. They sit in a disappointing 8th position in the Bundesliga after picking up 36 points from their opening 25 matches.

The visitors have lost three of their last five matches in all competitions, and I think another could be on the cards for them. Villarreal have won four of their last five home matches in all competitions and will want to earn themselves a win before they have to visit Germany.

Odds of 11/10 for a Villarreal Win look really good value too, so I’m backing that as my main tip. I think it will be a tight game though, Villarreal haven’t been in great scoring shape recently and Bayer Leverkusen will try to remain tight throughout so they have something to work with in the home leg.
