      Villarreal vs Valencia Predictions

It hasn’t been a great start for surprise appointment Gary Neville at Valencia. He has seen his side knocked out of the Champions League and is yet to win in La Liga after his side failed to beat Getafe at home last time out. Worryingly they are now 8 points behind Villarreal and that gap could easily grow to 11 here, which would leave Valencia with a huge task to make the top four, a feat they achieved last season.

These are good times at El Madrigal though and Villarreal are currently in 5th place and only 1 point behind 4th place Celta Vigo. They’ve won all of their last 3 matches without conceding a goal with impressive wins over Real Madrid at home and away at Real Sociedad last time out, meaning they should come into this game high on confidence.

They’ve done very well when the better sides have visited El Madrigal this season. They were 1-0 winners against both the Madrid clubs and will fancy another major scalp here. Apart from one freak 5-1 win at Celta Vigo, Valencia have only scored 4 goals on their travels in 7 outings in the league and haven’t been at all convincing.

Therefore it’s hard to see there being many goals here and backing there to be 2 or fewer at 7/10 might be a smart move.

Villarreal are really strong favourites with the bookmakers and right now they certainly look like more the effective unit and with home advantage they should just edge this. At 5/1 you can back them to secure an important 1-0 win.
