Watford vs Southampton Predictions
Watford have had a fairly successful, if slightly unfortunate, return to the Premier League so far. They opened the season with a hard fought draw against Everton, coming from behind twice and securing a 2-2 scoreline.
Last week, they face West Brom. The game ended goalless, but Watford will feel like they deserved to win the match. They had the lion’s share of possession, and had 14 attempts on goal compared to West Brom’s measly 4 shots, which all went wide.
However, they did everything but make the net ripple, and only came away with a point.
Southampton have had a much worse start to the season by their standards. Their 2-2 draw at St James’ Park is forgiveable. They were away from home and Newcastle showed some glimpses of quality.
But the result at St Mary’s last weekend will be less easily forgettable. Everton came to the south coast and put 3 goals past them in an impressive 3-0 victory that highlighted the loss that Southampton have incurred this transfer window.
They have followed this up with a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Midtjylland in the first leg of their Europa League playoff, and they will now face a tough task going to Denmark looking for a win.
Fraser Forster, Floring Gardos, and Jordy Clasie are all still injured for the Saints, whilst Watford will have to do without Lloyd Doyley and Joel Ekstrand.
These 2 sides last met in the Championship at the start of 2012. Southampton won that fixture, and the previous 5 games yielded 3 wins for Watford, 1 for Southampton, and a draw.
I think Watford have a great chance of securing their first 3 points of the season on Sunday. Southampton are down on confidence and face an away game against a side that love to attack. Odds of 5/6 for a Watford Win (Draw No Bet) look pretty valuable as well.
