Watford vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions
Watford looked to be sure fire contenders for the relegation battle back at the start of the season. They failed to win any of their first five games in all competitions and went on a four match scoreless run.
But Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney have got back to the form they were enjoying in the Championship last season and have propelled Watford up the table.
Watford come into this match on the back of a five match unbeaten streak in the Premier League in which they have only dropped two points.
Their 2-2 draw against Chelsea on Boxing Day took their tally to 29 points for the season, putting them in 7th position and just three points off a top four spot in the Premier League.
This 4th place spot is occupied by Tottenham Hotspur though. A win for the home side on Monday would take them level on points with the prime top four contenders, whereas a loss would bring them crashing back to earth after an excellent run of form.
Spurs are probably the most in form side that Watford will have faced in recent times. The visitors comfortably beat Norwich 3-0 on Saturday to take their record to three wins, one loss, and one draw in their last five outings.
Away from home they are unbeaten in five matches and have won three of them. They certainly deserve their Champions League position at the moment.
Spurs haven’t lost to Watford since 1987, and the North London side have won five of their eight meetings since then.
Watford are in excellent form, but their victories have come against out of form sides such as Aston Villa, Norwich, Sunderland, and Liverpool. I think they’ll struggle against the in form Spurs, so I’m backing an away win at excellent odds of 11/10. With both sets of strikers on form I’m also going for a high scoring 3-1 Spurs win at 18/1.
