Werder Bremen vs Heidenheim Predictions
- Werder Bremen only won two of their 17 home games in the Bundesliga this season.
- Heidenheim picked up points in ten of their 17 away games in the 2. Bundesliga this season.
- Heidenheim have won three and drawn one of their last six matches.
- Werder Bremen have lost four of their last six matches.
Werder Bremen can’t afford their usual home performance on Thursday
Bremen thrashed Cologne 6-1 on the final day of the Bundesliga season and avoided automatic relegation but now face a two-legged playoff to save their top-flight status. Heidenheim lost on the final day of the 2. Bundesliga season to the champions Bielefeld 3-0 but still finished 3rd in the table and have a chance of reaching the Bundesliga for the first time in their history.
These two sides have met twice before, both times in the cup, with Heidenheim winning the first clash 2-1 in 2011 and Werder Bremen running out 4-1 winners back in October. Cup results like these don’t give us much to go on but you can at least assume that both teams will create chances to score based on these results.
Heidenheim will be looking to take a positive result into next weeks 2nd leg
Our prediction for a double chance bet on the visitors this Thursday is based on the two clubs performances this season and their form heading into the 1st leg. Heidenheim claim the title of form favourites after they picked up three wins, one draw and suffered just two defeats from their last six outings, while Werder Bremen’s form has been much poorer having lost four times during that same period of matches and only securing two wins.
Werder Bremen have been very poor at home this season where they have picked up just two wins from 17 matches. The hosts have lost 12 times in their own backyard and failed to beat the two teams that finished below them in the Bundesliga table, Dusseldorf and Paderborn. Heidenheim only lost seven times on the road in the 2. Bundesliga, picking up four wins and six draws on their travels, so should be confident heading into Thursday’s 1st leg.
The visitors have never reached the echelons of the Bundesliga in their 173-year history
As for a final scoreline, we’re predicting a 2-1 win for the visitors. Werder Bremen have only kept clean sheets in 6% of their home games and performed so dreadfully at home this season, while Heidenheim were competitive on their travels in the 2. Bundesliga, scoring an average of 1.32 goals and only conceding an average of 1.06 goals. The hosts scored an average f 1.24 goals and concede an average of 2.03 goals per home game this season, which ties in neatly with our prediction for a 2-1 away win on Thursday.
