We use stars to rate our confidence in our tips, with 3 being most confident to 1 being the least.
Wigan 2-0 @ 9/1

Reason For Wigan vs QPR Predictions

  • Wigan have won six of their last eight league games, keeping clean sheets in each victory
  • QPR have failed to win in eight of their last ten away league games, firing blanks in four of their last six road assignments
  • One or both teams have failed to score in each of Wigan’s last eight league games

Wigan heading in the right direction

The news of a possible 12-point deduction for Wigan will not help their cause in the battle to avoid Championship relegation but they were heading in the right direction prior to that and could get the better of poor travellers QPR.

Wigan were brushed aside 3-0 at promotion-seeking Brentford on Saturday but before that had won six of their last seven fixtures, including their opening three games since football’s resumption.

The Latics recorded wins to nil over Huddersfield, Blackburn and Stoke within the last month and with clean sheets in seven of their last eight contests are clearly defensively resolute under Paul Cook.

It is possible that going into administration could deter them but if the points deduction comes true then this is a game they simply can’t afford to lose.

Cook has promised his players will be up to the challenge whatever the consequences and a visit from an inconsistent QPR side provides them with a winnable opportunity.

QPR tough to trust on their travels

QPR have failed to win in eight of their last ten away league games, firing blanks in four of their last six road assignments, and are difficult to trust at the DW Stadium.

A Jordan Hugill strike rewarded QPR with maximum points at Middlesbrough last time out but prior to that they had lost three consecutive league games, featuring 1-0 defeats against relegation-threatened pair Barnsley and Charlton.

QPR have managed just 22 goals in 20 away games (an average of 1.1 per game) and they failed to score in eight of those road encounters.

With Rangers 13th on 53 points, it’s unlikely any of their remaining five games are going to carry much importance and that could leave them vulnerable against a Wigan outfit in more need of the points.

Goals could be hard to come by

One or both teams have failed to score in each of Wigan’s last eight league games and we are predicting that sequence to continue at home to QPR.

In fact, one or both teams have failed to score in 22 of their 41 league contests, while three of QPR’s four games since resumption have ended 1-0.

With Rangers having failed to score in four of their last away games and Wigan showing defensive resoluteness of late, our prediction is a 2-0 home win. The Latics have overcome Huddersfield and Blackburn by that scoreline within the last month.
