AFC Wimbledon vs Portsmouth Predictions

Wimbledon managed to break out of their poor spell of form at just the right time back in March. They had gone five matches without defeat before they beat York City, but after a slight blip the following weekend against Hartlepool they finally started to look like themselves again.

They haven’t dropped a point since then, making it five wins on the trot for Wimbledon. This run of form has seen them jump into the League Two playoff positions, and they are currently in 7th position with a five point lead over Cambridge United in 8th.

Automatic promotion isn’t completely beyond them, but it is very unlikely. They have nine points and 24 goals in goal difference to make up on Oxford United in 3rd, so it would be a real surprise if they managed that.

Portsmouth sit just above Wimbledon coming into this game. They are eight points adrift of the automatic promotion places, which again makes it very unlikely that they can catch Oxford United. However, a strong finish to the season could still see them improve their position in the playoff zone, which could be crucial in their push for promotion.

Portsmouth won 2-1 against Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday to all but seal their spot in the playoff zone, but prior to this they had lost back to back games against Plymouth and York.

This 3-1 defeat to York City was Portsmouth’s last away day in League One, and it marked the 6th away game in a row in which they have found the back of the net. This is something Portsmouth have never had a problem with during the course of this season, and only one of their last 19 away games has seen them fail to score.

They have only kept a clean sheet in two of these matches though, which doesn’t bode well considering that Wimbledon have netted in 19 of their last 22 home matches. The hosts have conceded in 15 of these 22 games though, so odds of 4/5 for Both Teams to Score look good value to me. I’m going for another Wimbledon win with a 2-1 correct score prediction as well.
