Yeovil vs Cambridge United Predictions

When they got off to good a start, Yeovil fans may have thought that their side could defy expectations and do well this season, though after a surprisingly bright beginning, things have well and truly turned sour for The Glovers, who’ve lost each of their last six matches. Such form has seen them slip to just a point above the dreaded drop-zone. Saturday’s match against fellow strugglers Cambridge is nothing short of a must-win game.

For many weeks, Yeovil were in a position where they needed to win to avoid being sucked into the relegation battle, but since they’ve struggled to get results, they’re now well and truly immersed in the fight for survival, which is a fight that they’re certainly not winning at present. Last time out, the Glovers did show some intent, while they also created some decent chances going forward, but they lacked end-product.

If we look at Yeovil’s recent performances, then it’s easy to see why they’re struggling. Prior their defeat away against a decent Forest Green side, they weren’t exactly conceding an abundance of chances, but they offered very little going forward, as the fact that they’ve scored just 0.97 goals on average this season suggests. Recent expected-goals for numbers of 0.91, 1.2, 0.13, 0.62 and 0.28 are also very poor. Unless such numbers are improved, then Saturday’s hosts cannot expect to move away from danger.

Fortunately for the hosts, they face Cambridge, who’re also struggling to gather momentum, especially going forward on the road. Saturday’s visitors have won just two of their last ten on the road, while they’ve scored just once in their last seven away matches. At times, Cambridge have been unfortunate to go without scoring away from home but given that they’ve recently posted expected-goals for figures such as 0.35, 0.45 and 0.87, it’s not difficult to see why they often struggle to find the net when playing on their travels. Like Yeovil, they find it tough to consistently create chances, and even when they do, they’re often blighted by a lack of end-product, as we saw against Cheltenham on Tuesday evening.

At the prices, the bet that stands out ahead of this fixture is ‘Both Teams to Score – NO’. Not only do both look weak offensively, but despite their struggles, in their respective home and away games, the pair haven’t given away as much as one might think. Yeovil have shipped an average of 1.17 expected goals at home, while Cambridge have surrendered 1.34. If we consider this in conjunction with the fact that both are likely to be desperate to avoid defeat in this fixture, which could spark a cagey affair, it’s easy to feel that there’s marginal value to be had by backing at least one team to falter in front of goal at the current prices.
