Faroe Islands vs Sweden Predictions

As they search for their first points of qualifying, Faroe Islands play host to Sweden on Thursday evening. While the hosts have struggled, Sweden find themselves nicely placed in 2nd position, though as they’re level on points with Romania, it is imperative that they collect maximum points from this fixture.

Predictably, Faroe Islands have found it tough to get going in qualifying. They’ve won none of their first four matches in Group F, while they’re still looking for their first point of the campaign. Defensively, it’s been a struggle for the minnows, who’ve 12 goals in four games, while they’re also surrendering an average of 15 shots per game and 1.71 expected goals.

However, while result haven’t gone their way, there’s been numerous moments of promise for Thursday’s hosts. Last time out, they were far from outclassed by Norway, as they created a couple of good goal-scoring opportunities. Not only did they perform admirably against the Norwegians, but they managed to get on the scoresheet against both Spain and Romania.

Unfortunately, the hosts are up against a Sweden side that has looked menacing going against weak opposition in qualifying. Prior to being outclassed in Spain last time out, the Swedes beat Malta by three goals to nil at home, as they produced an impressive 4.18 expected goals for.

In their only away game in Group F, Sweden delivered another fine attacking display to score three goals away against Norway. Unfortunately, their defence let them down, as they conceded three.

The betting ahead of this game suggests that it should be a walk in the park for Sweden, though while that is true, the hosts really shouldn’t be discounted offensively. By playing on the front-foot the Swedes have often let themselves open to the counter in qualifying, which will encourage the hosts.

Defensively, Faroe Islands will undoubtedly fail to compete for the fifth time in Group F, but their previous efforts suggest that they can cause the visitors one or two problems, probably on the break. As the hosts have scored in defeat against both Spain and Romania already, ‘Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score’ looks overpriced.
