An extra-time win over Norway in the punishing Miami heat sent England to their fourth World Cup semi-final, setting up a tie with old rivals and defending champions Argentina.

The Three Lions have lost their last two semi-final appearances and another difficult encounter is expected. Alongside our in-depth match prediction, I have dived into the player markets to put together two tasty looking Bet Builders for Wednesday’s clash.

Back our 94/1 England vs Argentina Ultimate Bet Builder here

Lionel Messi to have 4+ shots

Lionel Messi leads the shooting stats in the World Cup after the quarter-final stage with a massive 33 attempts on goal.

His four shots against Switzerland means he has had at least four attempts in all five of his starts, including 18 shots across three knockout-stage matches.

Harry Kane to have 3+ shots

Harry Kane is some way behind Messi in the shooting charts but his tally of 22 attempts is more than respectable after six matches played.

The England captain has had three or more shots in five of these six games, and likely would have done against Mexico were it not for Jarrel Quansah’s red card.

Alexis Mac Allister to have 2+ shots

Alexis Mac Allister is the only Argentina player other than Messi to have registered double figures in the shots-taken department and he was rewarded with a goal against Switzerland.

The Liverpool midfielder has had two or more shots in all three knockout-stage games and in four of his five starts overall.

Jude Bellingham to have 2+ shots on target

Jude Bellingham has been the star for England this tournament and will be tasked with making a big difference against Argentina.

He has scored twice in his last two games and has registered eight shots on target in his three knockout ties, hitting the target twice or more in each of these.

Lionel Messi to make 1+ tackles

Incredibly, Lionel Messi has the second-most tackles won in the Argentina squad with eight successful dispossessions.

He has won two or more tackles in three of his five starts and has won at least one tackle in all of these starts for Argentina.

Jude Bellingham to be fouled 2+ times

Jude Bellingham has been fouled an England-high 12 times this tournament, with four of these coming against Norway last time out.

He has been fouled twice or more in three of his last four appearances for a total of 11 fouls drawn in this period.

Nicolas Tagliafico to be fouled 2+ times

Only Messi has been fouled more times for Argentina this tournament than left-back Nicolas Tagliafico, who has drawn ten fouls despite only starting three games.

He has started three of the last four games, though, so he is expected to be in the starting lineup on Wednesday. The Lyon defender has been fouled nine times in these four appearances, drawing two or more fouls in each of his starts.

Back our 13/1 Bellingham vs Messi Bet Builder special here

Lionel Messi has lit up yet another World Cup despite his advancing years but, at the other end of the age spectrum, Jude Bellingham single-handedly dragged England through their quarter-final tie with Norway and has put in one of England’s greatest ever World Cup campaigns so far.

The two stars are likely to be heavily involved in Atlanta on Wednesday, so I have taken the following legs from our Bet Builder above to build this Bellingham vs Messi special.

Bet Builder legs:

  • Lionel Messi to have 4+ shots
  • Lionel Messi to make 1+ tackles
  • Jude Bellingham to have 2+ shots on target
  • Jude Bellingham to be fouled 2+ times
