After Tottenham and Aston Villa won the previous two Europa League finals, there were fears that the Premier League’s wealth would now dominate Europe’s second-tier competition.
However, Bournemouth and Sunderland claimed the Premier League’s two Europa League berths last term, and they’ve been joined in the competition by Conference League winners Crystal Palace.
With none of England’s traditional powers in the field, there’s an open feel to this season’s Europa League. There are 14 teams priced at 25/1 or shorter, and that makes for an interesting outright market, led by Italian giants Juventus.

Europa League 2026/27 outright predictions
AC Milan to win – 15/2
While Juventus lead the betting, I’d put Serie A rivals AC Milan ahead of them. Juve have fallen to PSV Eindhoven and Galatasaray in the first knockout round of the last two Champions League campaigns. They’ve made a mess of their recruitment in recent windows, and the squad doesn’t look much stronger despite their humbling European exits.
AC Milan spent much of last season on course for the top four, only to falter in the final weeks of the season. Rather than building on that, the Rossoneri set about overhauling their side.
They’ve moved on from the conservative Max Allegri, replacing him with former Man United manager Ruben Amorim. Unlike United, Milan seem to be on board with his tactical approach. They’ve made Portuguese striker Goncalo Ramos their club record signing, and they’ve spent £42million on converted wing-back Diego Moreira.
While Amorim’s United reign went to pieces, the Portuguese boss led the Red Devils to the Europa League final in 2025. Earlier that season, he had taken 10 points from four Champions League games with Sporting, including a 4-1 victory over Manchester City.
Amorim once again finds himself with one of the strongest squads in the competition. He can lean on the experience of Luka Modric in midfield and Mike Maignan in goal, while the club have some young talents primed for a breakout year in Davide Bartesaghi and Alphadjo Cisse.
Sunderland each-way – 18/1
The lack of a Premier League favourite is understandable, but it’s odd that Sunderland are the longest-priced of the three English sides. Crystal Palace will be competing at a higher level of European football than last season, but with a weaker squad and without manager Oliver Glasner.
Bournemouth have lost boss Andoni Iraola, and it remains to be seen how Marco Rose does as his replacement. The Cherries have lost Marcos Senesi from their backline, and his replacement, Antonio Silva, is one of their few players with European experience.
Sunderland are the only one of the three sides to have retained their manager, and they’ve also kept captain Granit Xhaka, who was key to Leverkusen’s run to the Europa League final in 2024.
In goalkeeper Robin Roefs and striker Brian Brobbey, the Black Cats have quality options at either end of the pitch. There’s still room for internal improvement from their young squad, and they’ve shown a tactical flexibility under Regis Le Bris which could suit knockout football.
Since Liverpool and West Ham made quarter-final exits in this competition in 2024, no English side has been beaten by a continental opponent. After the all-English final in 2025, Aston Villa beat Nottingham Forest in last season’s semi-finals.
Forest’s run to the last four, amid a relegation battle and a carousel of managers, shows how far Premier League resources can take a club in this competition. Like Sunderland, Forest also made it into Europe despite overperforming against their underlying numbers. That didn’t stop them from putting together a strong run.
The Black Cats look best-placed of the three English sides, and they can expect close to 50,000 fans behind them in home knockout matches. Their home form was the foundation of their top-flight success last season, and it can help them to continue their remarkable rise with a deep run in Europe.
