Thirty-six teams go to post for the league phase of the 2026/27 Champions League.
A place in the top eight after eight league phase games guarantees a ticket straight into the last 16. Teams who finish in places 9-24 will have to go through a two-legged knockout play-off round for the right to tackle the top eight.
PSG and both Madrid giants memorably failed to make the top eight last term, whereas the likes of Tottenham and Sporting Lisbon did.
Things don’t always go to plan over the autumn, which is the reasoning behind the following 8-1 Knockout Round playoff treble and an explosive 42/1 Top Eight three-fold.
42/1 Champions League League Phase Treble
Arsenal To Finish 1-8
Fixtures: Real Madrid (h), Bayern Munich (a), Borussia Dortmund (h), Real Betis (a), Lille (h), Napoli (a), Sabah (h), Slavia Prague (a)
Arsenal were flawless 12 months ago and should have no difficulty getting to the 16 points which are probably required.
They beat Bayern and Slavia during last season’s league phase and it’s hard to see the likes of Lille or Sabah holding them up atThe Emirates.
Borussia Dortmund To Finish 1-8
Fixtures: Inter Milan (h), Arsenal (a), Real Betis (h), Aston Villa (a), Villarreal (h), Bodo/Glimt (a), AEK Athens (h), Sabah (a)
Dortmund were heading for the top eight amid a flurry of goals until they took one point from their last three games.
A 2-2 draw at home to Bodo/Glimt in Matchday 6 proved calamitous so they will be happy to avenge that. They thumped Villarreal 4-0 at home last season and have a great draw with betis, AEK Athens, Sabah and even Inter Milan at home looks winnable.
PSV To Finish 1-8
Fixtures: Atletico (h), Real Madrid (a), Brugge (h), Porto (a), Shakhtar (h), Leipzig (a), Stuttgart (h), Viking (a)
PSV’s hammerings of Napoli and Liverpool last term were rare highs in an otherwise disappointing campaign.
This season’s draw looks far kindlier for Peter Bosz and his Eredivisie big-hitters.

City aren’t quite right yet under Enzo Maresca. They may well come good but Lens away was arguably the worst road trip from Pot 4 while Napoli and Leipzig represent stern tests from Pot 3. And then there’s PSG and Barcelona. Altogether a tough test.

The home game against Bodo/Glimt and trip to Slavia ought to be the bedrock of a campaign in which Dino Toppmoller’s impressive group – who have already beaten PSG in the French Champions Trophy – can emerge successfully.
Barcelona To Finish 9-24
Fixtures: Man City (h), PSG (a), Aston Villa (h), Sporting (a), Feyenoord (h), Galatasaray (a), Como (h), Sabah (a)
Here’s the wild card, a team who could easily lose in Paris, legitimately drop points at Galatasaray and at home to Man City. One more slip and the top eight could feasibly elude them.
