Arsenal ended a wait of more than 20 years for their 14th league title last season, finishing seven points clear of closest challengers Manchester City and a whopping 25 ahead of defending champions Liverpool.
The Gunners come into the new season as the clear favourites to make it back-to-back league wins, a feat they haven’t managed since winning three in a row in the 1930s, but they face different challenges this season after the majority of their likely rivals made managerial changes.

Premier League outright winner prediction
Arsenal to win the Premier League @ 5/4
Arsenal won the top domestic prize in style last season after a wait stretching over two decades since their last league crown, and they look well placed to launch a successful defence.
The Gunners have made improvements to the team that won the league convincingly last season with Bruno Guimaraes arriving from Newcastle, while Christos Tzolis looks like a promising addition after an exceptional season with Club Brugge.
In contrast, their main rivals have entered transitional periods. Closest challengers Man City are embarking on a new era under Enzo Maresca as they begin life without Pep Guardiola and the exit of the long-serving Catalan boss will undoubtedly have an impact on the team.
Manchester United came in third last season and they have made some good moves over the summer. Michael Carrick still has plenty to prove as manager, however, and their squad still looks a little lightweight for a serious title charge.
Aston Villa completed the top four last season but have lost some key men over the summer, including Youri Tielemans to United, and they don’t look credible title contenders.
Liverpool went into last season as defending champions but could only finish fifth. The Reds have lost talisman Mohamed Salah and also have a new manager in place with Andoni Iraola replacing Arne Slot.
Chelsea should be better under Xabi Alonso but turning a team that finished 10th last season into champions should be too big of a stretch for the Spaniard, while a title tilt also looks beyond Tottenham even if far better is expected from Arsenal’s north London rivals after last year’s relegation battle.
Arsenal are the only team who look like the finished article and genuinely appear in better shape than they were last season. The Gunners should also draw a huge amount of confidence from ending their wait for a league title and their trophy drought in general, and even at a fairly short price they still offer enough value to win the league ahead of a set of rivals who all have questions hanging over them.
Premier League Top 4 Predictions
Chelsea to finish in the top 4 @ 5/6
Arsenal are predicted to win the league and even if they don’t manage a successful defence, dropping out of the top four seems highly unlikely. Liverpool ended up fifth last season as defending champions and that marked the first time since Chelsea in 2017-18 that a holder had ended up outside the top four at the end of the campaign.
Guardiola’s exit may see City struggle to challenge for the title but they still have an incredible squad and Maresca should be a solid replacement. They should also comfortably finish inside the top four.
Liverpool and Chelsea complete my top four, not necessarily in that order, and the latter offer the best value at 5/6.
Chelsea don’t have a European competition to contend with so they can put their full focus on the league. New manager Xabi Alonso has a proven track record of getting teams to overachieve after his Bundesliga success at Bayer Leverkusen, even if it didn’t work out at Real Madrid, and he should be able to hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge.
Among the other contenders, Villa offer some appeal at 4/1 as they have finished fourth in two of the last three seasons. They may have lost a few key men but Unai Emery consistently manages to get the best out of his team, and they should be able to strengthen their squad further before the transfer window closes.
Premier League dark horse predictions
Nottingham Forest to finish in the top 6 @ 7/1
In terms of the title race a win for a genuine dark horse seems improbable but at 8/1 Chelsea could be worth an each-way bet. The Blues have made what could be excellent signings with experienced campaigners Maxence Lacroix and Morgan Rogers ready to go straight into the starting XI, while younger arrivals like Geovany Quenda, Marco Palestra and Emmanuel Emegha have bags of potential.
The best outside bets could come from elsewhere, however, and the 8/1 on Nottingham Forest to finish in the top six catches the eye.
Forest underperformed last year in a season where they went through four different managers and had a European campaign to contend with. This year they have former Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner in charge and that looks a smart appointment, they also have the Elliot Anderson transfer fee to spend to bolster their squad in the remainder of the summer.
