Championship play-off outright predictions with 10/3 promotion tip!

A dramatic final-day Championship season saw the scores settled at the top and the bottom of the table, but the final remaining promotion position remains up for grabs as Sheffield United, Sunderland, Coventry City, and Bristol City compete for the richest prize in football.
The first leg of the semi-finals kick off on Thursday before Friday’s showdown in Coventry, and I’ve picked out my best bet for the overall winner of the Championship play-offs.
Championship play-off outright betting odds
- Sheffield United – 6/4
- Sunderland – 11/4
- Coventry City – 10/3
- Bristol City – 4/1

Championship play-off outright prediction – Coventry to be promoted
Coventry City may be third in the betting for Championship promotion, but the beaten 2023 play-off finalists look a solid bet to make a long-awaited return to the Premier League next season.
The Sky Blues ended the regular season with a 2-0 win over fellow play-off hopefuls Middlesbrough, continuing the impeccable home form that could be a defining factor in their semi-final clash with Sunderland.
The only points they have dropped at The Coventry Building Society Arena in their last eight assignments came against the now-promoted Burnley, and each of their last four victories here has been accompanied by a clean sheet.
A 3-0 win over Sunderland is part of this excellent sequence, and that is just one of several torrid results for the Black Cats in the closing portions of the season. Their 1-0 defeat to Queens Park Rangers at the weekend was their fifth defeat on the spin, and they have failed to score in four of those losses.
Frank Lampard’s side could deal a fatal blow to Sunderland’s waning morale in the first leg, and that should be enough to carry them to Wembley.
Promotion favourites Sheffield United may be Coventry’s most likely opponents at Wembley according to the bookmakers, but they face a tough semi-final against a Bristol City side that have won six and drawn two of their last eight home games, and I fancy the Robins to put them on the back foot in the first leg.
The Blades have failed to gain promotion from any of their six Championship play-off appearances, and they dropped 14 points in their last seven games as any hope of automatic promotion was swept away.
Whoever stands across from Coventry City in the final, the Sky Blues still have a great chance of clinching the most valuable prize in football.
They have only lost two of their last six meetings with Sheffield United and one of their last seven with Bristol City, including a four-point haul against the Robins this season, so they have a solid chance of returning to the top flight for the first time since their 2001 relegation.
