Club World Cup Outright Special Tips
Julian Alvarez Atletico Madrid Top Team Goalscorer at 6/4
Atletico Madrid have the potential to go all the way but they do have a tricky group to navigate first, having been drawn alongside Champions League winners Paris-Saint Germain and Copa Libertadores holders Botafogo. Home hopefuls Seattle Sounders complete a Group B where you can make a case for all four teams to qualify, although the MLS outfit are obvious outsiders.
Either Alexander Sorloth or Julian Alvarez will probably lead the scoring for Atleti irrespective of how far they go in the competition, and the latter as the slight outsider looks the stronger play. Sorloth was Los Colchoneros’ top marksman in La Liga with 20 goals but he only managed four further strikes across 15 appearances in cup competitions. In contrast, Alvarez came into his own in the cups with 12 goals in 17 appearances – giving him a total of 29 strikes across all comps – and seven of those efforts came across his 10 outings in the Champions League.
Argentina international Julián Alvarez also has more international tournament experience than his Norwegian team-mate, and that could work in his favour in this club event that mirrors a major international competition in format.
Flamengo To Reach The Quarter-FInals at 2/1
The European teams are understandably expected to dominate this tournament but the four Brazilian teams shouldn’t be underestimated either and Flamengo look well placed to make a deep run in the USA.
The Rubro-Negro are enjoying an excellent season domestically and continentally. Flamengo lead the way in Brazil’s Serie A and their defence has been exceptional, conceding just four goals in seven games. They’ve also already won the Campeonato Carioca and Supercopa do Brasil, while they are still involved in the Copa Libertadores.
Flamengo should be able to get out of a Group D that contains Chelsea, LAFC and Espérance de Tunis – and if they are able to qualify they only need to win one knockout game to reach the last eight and land this 2/1 bet.
Group H Highest Scoring Group at 5/1
Real Madrid, Pachuca, Al Hilal, Red Bull Salzburg and Pachuca make up Group H and these four teams could provide the most goals in the group stages.
Real are a few levels above all of their group rivals and could fill their boots in terms of goals in these opening three games. Red Bull Salzburg tend to be involved in high-scoring games and their domestic league fixtures averaged a hefty 2.8 goals per-game this season.
Pachuca’s Liga LX games are averaging over three goals per-game after 17 rounds of fixtures. Al-Hilal are a bit of an unknown quantity, but the presence of Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrović in their squad suggests they can provide a few goals.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia To Win The Golden Ball at 25/1
The Golden Ball will almost certainly be won by a player from the winning team and we’ve gone for PSG to take the trophy.
Ballon d’Or favourite Ousmane Dembele and teenage sensation Desire Doue are priced at 11/2 and 7/1 respectively, but as an outside option Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is worth a mention.
The Georgian playmaker joined PSG during the season from Napoli and seemed to be hitting his stride with his new club as the season came to an end. Kvaratskhelia had an assist against Arsenal in the Champions League semi-finals, scored twice in the final round of Ligue 1 games and was on target in the European showpiece as the French champions dismantled Inter Milan 5-0. If he can carry that form into the Club World Cup, he could be a Golden Ball contender.
