Goals Galore Long Haul: 52/1 Acca for the final weekend of the season

Before becoming a Sports Journalist for Free Super Tips, Aaron spent three years studying Sports Journalism at the University of Sunderland while taking in the Black Cats' 'glory years' under Martin O'Neill. Now back in Northern Ireland he turns niche stats into predictions for FST, while he's one of the few people on this island who is equally comfortable at Windsor Park and the Aviva.

The final round of action in a league season tends to bring goals, either through desperation or apathy. We’ve all seen teams throw everything forward in a bid to get over the line, while it feels like every season ends with a thriller between sides who have little to play for.

With that in mind, I’ve picked two match goals tips apiece from this weekend’s three league finales in England, Italy, and Spain.

Friday – Como vs Inter Milan

Inter Milan head to Cesc Fabregas’s Como on Friday night in search of the title, but the Nerazzurri go into the game with only two clean sheets across their previous 14 matches.

Inter missed the chance to move top of the table ahead of the final game when they drew 2-2 at home to Lazio on Sunday.

In-form Como are bidding to secure a top-10 finish, while they’ve scored in 14 consecutive league games. However, six of the hosts’ eight home meetings with the sides above them have featured three or more goals, with Como conceding 16 goals across those matches.

Tip: Over 2.5 Goals

Saturday – Leganes vs Valladolid

18th-placed Leganes face a must-win game on Saturday night as they bid to avoid the drop. A 1-0 win at Las Palmas kept their survival hopes alive, but Saturday’s clash with a Valladolid outfit that has conceded over three goals per game on the road should be more entertaining.

Leganes have scored nine times across their four home meetings with the bottom six, although they’ve only kept one clean sheet against their fellow strugglers.

Bottom club Valladolid have been beaten in 17 of their 18 away games this season, including 2-1 defeats at their fellow bottom five sides. All but three of their away trips have featured at least three goals, so back this to be an entertaining clash.

Tip: Over 2.5 Goals

Saturday – Getafe vs Celta Vigo

Getafe secured safety with a 2-1 win at Mallorca last weekend, snapping a six-game losing streak. The hosts could play spoiler to seventh-placed Celta Vigo, who are aiming to secure a Europa League spot.

Over 2.5 goals has landed in five of the visitors’ previous six matches, including a 4-3 loss at Barcelona. Two-thirds of their away games this season have featured three goals or more, while the two sides directly above Celta both secured 2-1 victories at Getafe earlier this term.

Tip: Over 2.5 Goals

Sunday – Bologna vs Genoa

Bologna are eighth in Serie A, but they’ve already secured a return to Europe by lifting the Coppa Italia. Their cup win was followed up by a 3-2 loss at Fiorentina on Sunday, which suggests another open game is in store this weekend.

Genoa’s last three matches have brought a 2-1 defeat to AC Milan, a 2-2 draw with leaders Napoli, and a 3-2 home defeat against Atalanta.

The visitors’ form has dipped since securing safety, but they’re also playing with more freedom. With Bologna cruising to the finish line after their cup glory, this should be a really open game.

Tip: Over 2.5 goals

Sunday – Liverpool vs Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace are in a similar spot to Bologna, having won silverware and booked a European spot with time to spare.

The Eagles aren’t far removed from a thrilling 5-2 loss at the Etihad, where they took the game to Manchester City. With Liverpool’s players basking in their title win, there’s a chance for this Palace side to head to Anfield and try to cause problems.

Liverpool lost 3-1 at Chelsea and blew a 2-0 lead against Arsenal in their first two games after winning the league. Given how well the Eagles finished last term – beating Man United, Wolves, and Aston Villa while scoring 12 times – they could really give the hosts some issues.

Liverpool’s attacking depth has helped them to impress going forward, even with nothing to play for, so this could be a typical final-day free-for-all.

Tip: Over 3.5 Goals

Sunday – Athletic vs Barcelona

The final game of the La Liga season has nothing on the line, but it could still be a fantastic game. Barcelona’s 3-2 home defeat to Villarreal last weekend continued their high-scoring run, with seven of their previous 10 featuring at least four goals.

Barcelona will continue to play their adventurous style, while Sunday could be the final run for this Athletic Bilbao team.

Euro 2024 winner Nico Williams is expected to move on, while Oihan Sancet is sure to attract interest. This team has had a brilliant campaign, securing Champions League football and making a Europa League semi-final. They could finish within 12 points of Barca with a victory, so back these two to trade blows in a high-scoring clash.

Tip: Over 3.5 Goals
