February is here and with it the familiar excitement of the Six Nations. The tournament begins under pale and dark skies, but develops as the days get longer and concludes with all three round five fixtures taking place on a usually sunny Super Saturday.

Defending champions France are the general odds-on outright favourites, and the fixture list suits them. Their campaign starts with the first-ever Six Nations game to be played on a Thursday when Ireland visit before a possible showdown against England on March 14.

Six Nations 2026 outright predictions

  • England to win at 12/5 with bet365
  • Louis Bielle-Biarrey top tryscorer at 6/4 with bet365

The schedule suits the French, but Fabien Galthie has excluded several stalwarts, while scrum-half Antoine Dupont is still not back to his pre-injury best.

Still, they will always be in games thanks to Thomas Ramos’ right boot. The full-back has been the Six Nations’ top points scorer in the last three years and is joined in the back-three by jet-heeled winger Louis Bielle-Biarrey.

The Bordeaux star finished the 2025 Championship with a record eight tries, and with 16 in 14 club appearances in 2025-26, he is expected to top the charts again.

However, the sad news of Uini Atonio’s retirement on medical grounds leaves France lacking at tighthead prop. They’re not the only ones, although Tadhg Furlong is fancied to be fit for Ireland.

That is one of several issues hanging over the Irish, while Scotland’s underwhelming autumn also suggests they can’t be trusted.

So what about England? Steve Borthwick’s side have won 11 games in a row since losing in Dublin last February and have improved immeasurably.

They are also struggling for tighthead options and require a first away Calcutta Cup victory since 2020 to set up a potential Grand Slam game against France on Super Saturday.

Les Bleus may slip up before then, possibly in Edinburgh, so England are tipped to win the title for the first time in six years, but a clean sweep may prove beyond them.

Back our 7/1 Six Nations opening weekend treble

Looking to the opening weekend, the French are 13-point favourites and can open their campaign with a decent victory over an Irish team at a crossroads.

The same goes for England at home to Wales. The Red Rose are usually sluggish starters but have named an attacking team and a strong bench that should outclass Wales.

That’s the last game of round one, but before that, Scotland face a potential banana skin against Italy.

The Scots lost in Rome in 2024 and the always-improving Azzurri can show why it will be the Welsh who pick up the wooden spoon.
