This is an odd deadline day, with domestic transfers allowed in England for the next 11 days. You’d think that would ease the pressure on Premier League clubs, but in many ways, this is a crucial day for England’s top-flight sides.

Today is the final chance for English clubs to sign EU players without a work permit before the end of the Brexit transition period at the end of this year. The transfer window could look very different in January, but will that lead to some big moves? Follow our deadline day updates to find out!

Deadline Day Transfer Updates

23:18

Arsenal have their man, following a long-running chase for a central midfielder this summer. Minutes after Atletico confirmed Partey was deParteying, the Gunners confirmed the deal with puns worse than mine.

23:05

The transfer window has closed! As it stands, Arsenal are closing in on Thomas Partey, while a string of deals have been confirmed across the division. Those include Lucas Torreira joining Atletico Madrid on loan.

Leeds sealed their permanent move for Raphinha, while Southampton have bought Theo Walcott back to the club. Meanwhile, Everton have welcomed Robin Olsen in as they look to double their number of error-prone keepers.

Fulham have been busy, with Joachim Andersen in the door, with Tosin Adarabioyo and Ruben Loftus-Cheek to potentially follow.

22:05

Less than an hour to go and Manchester United have their third signing of the day. Edinson Cavani has arrived on a one-year deal with an option for another.

Cavani has been available on a free since July, while he could have easily signed past the deadline as a free agent. Landing him tonight along with Amad Traore – who likely won’t join until January – shows that United are trying to make a statement today.

20:18

Arsenal have triggered the £45million release clause for Thomas Partey, so he seems Premier League bound.

Meanwhile, one man departing these shores is Chris Smalling. After a successful year on loan at Roma, he’s moved back to the Italian capital for £18million.

20:00

With just three hours to go it’s gone a little quiet on the transfer front. The latest breaking news is Jack Wilshire’s departure from West Ham by mutual consent, he’s available on a free but it’s hard to see where he’ll end up after 19 starts in two years at the club.

The Hammers are now set to get involed in the Deadline Day action with a late push for Chelsea’s Fikayo Tomori.

18:58

Fulham have four hours left to seal moves for three centre-halves. They were linked with Joachim Andersen and Timo Baumgartl earlier today, while they’ve now reportedly lined up a switch for Man City’s Tosin Adarabioyo. It seems like Tony Khan is delivering the players he awkwardly promised on Twitter last week.

18:40

Roma are leaving it incredibly late to get deals over the line, with the Italian window shutting in just 20 minutes. Chris Smalling and Brenard are believed to be targets for the Giallorossi, who are now also said to be in talks over a potential loan switch for their goalkeeper Robin Olsen to move to Everton as competition for Jordan Pickford.

If goalkeeping errors are your main concern, signing this guy might not be the solution you need.

18:09

You wait all day for a big update and two come along at once.

Alex Telles is now a Manchester United player.

Meanwhile, Thomas Partey is London-bound as Arsenal close in on his signature.

18:01

One of the biggest stories from Europe has been Federico Chiesa’s move from Fiorentina to Juventus. The winger has now wrapped up a move to the Italian champions, with a £45million fee set to make it permanent after his initial loan period.

17:29

Everton are shedding wingers, with Theo Walcott nearing ever-closer to his return to Southampton. However, the latest twist is a late Roma bid for Brazilian winger Bernard. The Serie A side are hoping for a loan deal as we approach the deadline.

17:21

AC Milan’s Diego Laxalt is nearly a move to Celtic, with the defender close to wrapping up his move to the Scottish Premiership. The Bhoys are fully focused on getting this deal over the line, with this likely to be their only Deadline deal.

16:29

On a more serious note, here’s a quick rundown of some of the deals we expect to see before 11pm tonight.

  • Thomas Partey (Atletico Madrid to Arsenal)
  • Alex Telles (Porto to Man United)
  • Raphinha (Rennes to Leeds)
  • Timo Baumgartl (PSV to Fulham)
  • Joachim Andersen (Lyon to Fulham)
  • Theo Walcott (Everton to Southampton)

16:22

With less than seven hours to go, we still only have one confirmed signing by a Premier League club. As the clock clicks down, we expect late movement from those sides who look out of their depth in the Premier League so far, such as Fulham, West Brom and Manchester United.

15:57

With Jamie & Harry Redknapp on Sky Sports later, Frank Lampard may need a family favour to start offering out their talents live on TV. A QVCFC, if you will.

The Blues are reportedly open to the exits of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Antonio Rudiger, Malang Sarr, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Emerson, Marcos Alonso and Kepa.

While they are at it, they’d like to push out Victor Moses, Baba Rahman, Marco van Ginkel and Danny Drinkwater.

15:32

While the top English sides are yet to make major deadline day moves, Bayern Munich have secured a loan return of their former winger Douglas Costa. He spent just two years in Turin, now he returns to Bavaria alongside Choupo-Moting. Yes, we’re still not over that.

This departure from Juve clears a slot for Federico Chiesa, the latest man to risk the wrath of the Fiorentina faithful by moving to their Turin rivals. He’s expected to join on loan for two seasons, with a lengthy list of conditions which would trigger a £45million permanent deal.

15:01

With just hours left in the window Manchester United and Barcelona are at a deadlock. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano says that Barca are holding out for a permanent deal while United are hoping to secure a loan. The Red Devils are in the same position for Ismaila Sarr, so it could be a nervy finish for United fans.

14:56

A standing ovation for Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s agent everyone. The former Stoke forward was a surprising signing by PSG, yet he’s earned a move to Bayern Munich. Going from the Champions League runners-up to the European champions is quite an upgrade, with the forward a back-up for Robert Lewandowski. Incredible.

14:05

Hertha Berlin are teasing another move, which could interest Arsenal fans with Matteo Guendouzi bound for the Bundesliga club.

Meanwhile, could this man make his return to the Premier League?

13:45

Jordan Pickford could be left sweating this afternoon, with reports that Everton are chasing Sergio Romero. Manchester United’s third-choice stopper would be first-pick at plenty of Premier League clubs. Given Pickford’s shaky start, Everton could be among them.

13:30

Deadline Day is finally heating up after a slow start. Fulham are closing in on a much-needed centre-half, with Timo Baumgartl expected to join the Cottagers from PSV Eindhoven.

Elsewhere, Theo Walcott is set for a loan switch to Southampton, while Leeds are in the closing stages of a deal for Rennes’ winer Raphina.

13:15

There could still be big Deadline day deals in the pipeline, as it’s reported that Edinson Cavani and Alex Telles are at Man United’s Carrington training ground for medicals.

Meanwhile, Thomas Partey remains an Arsenal target, but the Gunners reportedly remain unwilling to meet Atletico Madrid’s £45million price-tag.

There are also reports that Tottenham could welcome back Christian Eriksen after less than a year in Milan.

Deadline Day Transfer Rumours

Tottenham are making a final push to strengthen their defence, as they’re liked with Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar. However, the Nerazzurri have already rebuffed approaches for him in the window and they value the defender at £50million.

Ronald Koeman has left the door open for Ousmane Dembele, who has been linked with a loan move to Manchester United. The Red Devils are expected to be busy today and could offer Dembele a chance for a fresh start after a tough time at Barca.

The Red Devils are also looking to wrap up Edinson Cavani and Alex Telles as they look to make improvements following their poor start to the season.

Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek is weighing up a loan exit with his minutes likely to be limited at Stamford Bridge. Frank Lampard has plenty of options in the middle of the park and is welcome to the idea of Loftus-Cheek temporarily moving somewhere to rediscover his best form.

Everton’s Theo Walcott could make a return to Southampton nearly 15 years after leaving the South Coast club. The Saints are considering a loan move for their former prodigy, with Walcott falling down the pecking order at Goodison Park.

Chelsea are trying to ship Antonio Rudiger before the deadline, as they don’t want him to end up at a Premier League rival. PSG, Spurs and AC Milan are all interested, with the German international struggling for playing time under Frank Lampard.
