There is just one major tournament for golf fans to look forward to this week as the Genesis Invitational takes place on the PGA Tour.

Rather than his usual winners double, Racing Post golf expert Steve Palmer has instead provided us with two outsiders for the event in California, which he recommends backing as each-way bets.

Read on to see who he thinks will impress at the Riviera Country Club.

Genesis Invitational Each-Way Tips

There is only one main-tour tournament for the betting community to consider this week, but it is a fantastic event – a Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club, California, which features the top 11 players in the world.

If Bryson DeChambeau was not carrying injuries, the field would be even stronger, but the array of superstars in attendance at the famous venue make this an ultra-competitive affair with lots of juicy prices for punters. Jon Rahm is the 9/1 favourite, but the Spaniard can be left alone at those odds.

He is hugely consistent, which is why he tops the world rankings, but it must be noted he has won only one tournament since September, 2020.

Dustin Johnson and Collin Morikawa – two faders of the ball who are well suited to Riviera – must be given plenty of respect this week. Both have been well backed early in the week, though, and punters seeking bigger prices are pointed towards Sam Burns and Joaquin Niemann.

Burns, a 35/1 chance, has suffered missed cuts in his last two events, hence the healthy odds, but he was only a shot shy of the cut-line in Phoenix last week and can be expected to bounce back at Riviera. Burns actually led the Genesis Invitational by five shots at the halfway stage last year – and by two shots with 18 holes to play – but the pressure got to him and he ended up in third place. That bold effort came when Burns was a PGA Tour maiden, but he has since picked up two victories and will be better equipped to handle himself this time.

Niemann, a former world number one amateur who is still only 23, has started 2022 impressively – with sixth spot at Torrey Pines and eighth in Saudi Arabia – and 60/1 seems generous about the Chilean winning at Riviera.
