Before becoming a Sports Journalist for Free Super Tips, Aaron spent three years studying Sports Journalism at the University of Sunderland while taking in the Black Cats' 'glory years' under Martin O'Neill. Now back in Northern Ireland he turns niche stats into predictions for FST, while he's one of the few people on this island who is equally comfortable at Windsor Park and the Aviva.
Manchester City are bidding to overturn last week’s 3-0 loss at the Bernabeu, but their prospects of progressing to the quarter-finals look remote.
I’ve backed the Citizens to win on the night but lose on aggregate in my free match predictions, and I’ve picked out another three tips to produce this 75/1 Ultimate Bet Builder for Tuesday’s game.
Man City vs Real Madrid Ultimate Bet Builder
Vinicius Junior to score anytime
While Manchester City are expected to force the issue in this clash, Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior is expected to get plenty of opportunities on the counter given the hosts’ desperation.
The Brazilian will be eager to make amends for his penalty miss in the first leg, a spot-kick which he earned after racing away in a Real counter-attack. Vinicius has still been among the chances without scoring this month, but he hit six goals in five games last month. Back him to return to form at the Etihad.
Federico Valverde 1+ shots on target
Valverde was the surprise hero in the first-leg, but his contribution wasn’t entirely out of the blue. He’s been playing in a more advanced role under Alvaro Arbeloa, and he has the stamina to push forward from the right side of midfield and cause problems for City.
Valverde scored against Elche at the weekend, leaving him with five goals in his last three games. He’s taken 12 shots across his last five matches for Real, recording six shots on target. Despite that, he’s a pricey 17/10 to register one shot on target less than a week from his hat-trick.
Bernardo Silva to be carded
Silva has been booked on three occasions across City’s previous ties with Real Madrid, and the Portuguese midfielder has been cautioned more than any other City player this season.
With City moving to two strikers and three more advanced midfielders, Silva ends up with his share of defensive work to do. He’s been shown 13 yellow cards this term, including four in his last seven appearances.
Dean Huijsen to be carded
Huijsen was booked at the Etihad for Bournemouth last term, and the Spaniard has picked up plenty of cards in his first season in Madrid.
Huijsen has been booked twice in the Champions League, along with five yellows in La Liga. His two cautions in Europe came in defeats at Liverpool and Benfica, while he was sent off at Real Sociedad back in September.
