The midweek Champions League action saw a few shocks as Ajax, Manchester United and Juventus all crashed out of the competition unexpectedly, while Lille were rather more likely casualties as they suffered a 4-1 aggregate defeat to Chelsea.

That left just eight teams in the hat for this morning’s Champions League quarter-final draw, and now we have all the fixtures for the final eight.

13/2 Champions League To Qualify acca

Chelsea vs Real Madrid

Real Madrid to qualify

Carlo Ancelotti returns to face one of his former clubs in this quarter-final tie and the scales are ever so slightly tipped in Real Madrid’s favour.

Karim Benzema put in a masterclass to knock PSG out in the Round of 16 and they have built up a ten-point lead at the top of La Liga, allowing them to concentrate fully on their European ambitions.

Chelsea have off-field issues to contend with and, while they are defending champions, last season was the first time they had made it past the quarter-final stage since 2013/14.

Man City vs Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid to qualify

Manchester City are, as usual, heavy favourites but Pep Guardiola hasn’t exactly been successful in Europe during his time in Manchester.

They reached the final last season but prior to that they were eliminated in the quarter-finals three seasons in a row and that was just the second time in history they made it past the quarter-final stage.

Atletico Madrid, on the other hand, have won five of their last six two-legged ties with English opposition, with four of these coming in the Champions League. They are too big a price to ignore here.

Villarreal vs Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich to qualify

I simply can’t look past Bayern Munich for this one, despite Villarreal’s excellent two-legged performance against Juventus in the last 16.

Bayern have made it to the semi-finals or further in seven of the last ten seasons and have won an incredible 26 of their last 29 Champions League ties, while Villarreal have only made it past the quarter-finals once in their history.

Benfica vs Liverpool

Liverpool to qualify

Liverpool are huge favourites for what is perhaps the easiest tie on paper and it’s hard to make a case for Benfica, despite impressively seeing off Ajax in the last round.

This is Benfica’s first Champions League quarter-final since 2011/12 when they were knocked out by Chelsea and they haven’t made the semi-finals since the 1989/90 season.

Liverpool, chasing a quadruple, are in stunning form right now with 13 wins in their last 15 competitive games and it would be a huge upset to see the Portuguese side progress.

Who are the favourites?

Manchester City retain their status as favourites at 15/8, while Liverpool have shortened to 2/1 in the betting after picking up the easiest draw on paper with Benfica.

Bayern Munich, at 3/1, make up the last of the big favourites, and then it’s a big jump to Chelsea and Real Madrid at 12/1 and 14/1 respectively after a tough quarter-final draw.

With the three remaining Premier League teams avoiding one another, odds for an English winner have shortened to a tiny 2/5.

Here are the outright winner odds in full:

  • Man City – 15/8
  • Liverpool – 2/1
  • Bayern Munich – 3/1
  • Chelsea – 12/1
  • Real Madrid – 14/1
  • Atletico Madrid – 25/1
  • Villarreal – 100/1
  • Benfica – 200/1

When will the Champions League quarter-finals take place?

The first legs of the quarter-finals will be played on Tuesday, 5th April and Wednesday, 6th April, with the second legs taking place a week later on Tuesday, 12th April and Wednesday, 13th April.
