2025/26 EFL Championship outright winner prediction

Ipswich to win the Championship at 7/2

In the past, the Championship was often home to yo-yo teams, who would bounce back and forth between the division and the top flight. But now the second tier itself is at risk of becoming a yo-yo league in which no promoted team can get a foothold in the Premier League and so return to the Championship as favourites the season after.

That has been the case in the last two campaigns, as the three teams promoted to the Premier League have all returned immediately.

Four of the top five in the betting this time around are teams who have been in the top flight in the last two seasons, and of the,m Ipswich look the best bet to prevail this time around.

The Tractor Boys had a tough time in the top flight last term, finishing 19th, but they look well set up to bounce back at the first time of asking.

Kieran McKenna is one of the most coveted young managers in English football and has resisted the urge to jump ship, which is a massive positive.

Despite losing star striker Liam Delap, they have a raft of players who have been successful at this level before.

Jaden Philogene, Leif Davis, Jack Clarke, Sammie Szmodics and Jacob Greaves have all excelled in the Championship in the past and form a very solid core.

Ipswich have also added solid midfielder Azor Matusiwa, the experience of Ashley Young and Ivory Coast defender Cedric Kipre.

While Southampton should be right up there, especially with their options in attacking areas, their defensive issues from last season are hard to forget and their new manager, Will Still, will need some time to get them playing how he wants them to.

The continuity of Ipswich appeals by contrast, and if they can hold on to McKenna, they look worthy favourites to win the Championship.

2025/26 EFL Championship each-way prediction

Coventry City each-way at 12/1

A terrible start to the season saw Coventry City mired in 17th position when Frank Lampard took charge in November, but a full season under the Chelsea legend could see the Sky Blues finally push on and challenge for the title.

Fifth-place finishers in two of the past three seasons, Coventry picked up 52 points under Lampard, and they will hope to improve further with a full pre-season under his belt.

While they haven’t made waves in the transfer market, Coventry have kept the bulk of their squad together, and they look decent value with each-way paying out the top three positions.
