Lens vs Nice – Lens to win at 21/20 with bet365

Lens beat second-placed Brest 1-0 last weekend to leave them just three points adrift of a top-three berth and they can claim another crucial three points against a struggling Nice.

Nice, who sit just two points below Lens in sixth position, have taken just one point from their last five games and have a torrid recent away record, drawing twice and losing five times in their last seven trips and scoring just two goals.

Lens, meanwhile, have won five of their last seven Ligue 1 outings and have four clean sheets to show for their efforts, so they can take all the points at Stade Bollaert-Delelis.

Sporting Gijon vs Alcorcon – Gijon -1 handicap at 2/1 with bet365

Gijon need to find a bit of form if they are to force their way into the play-off spots in La Liga 2 and the visit of struggling Alcorcon looks a good opportunity to kickstart a run.

Gijon’s home form has been fairly solid all season and they have seven points from the last nine available at the Estadio El Molinón.

Alcorcon are a point adrift of safety and have nine defeats in 15 trips in the league. The visitors have lost their last three away games without scoring, while their last two away losses have been 3-0 defeats. Gijon aren’t exactly prolific scorers but they should have enough about them to win fairly comfortably here so I’m taking a chance on the Rojiblancos to cover a -1 handicap at what looks a fairly generous 2/1.

Manchester City vs Newcastle – Man City & BTTS at 8/5 with bet365

Manchester City are heavy favourites to see off Newcastle, but the Citizens head into Saturday’s clash without a clean sheet in four. They shipped two goals to Luton in the last round of the cup and conceded twice at Newcastle in January during their impressive run of form.

Newcastle are struggling with just one win from their last five but their issues are mainly in defence. The Magpies have seen both teams score in seven of their last eight and they can trouble City, but the reigning FA Cup holders have won seven of their eight home games since winning the Club World Cup in December.

Colchester vs Walsall – Colchester at 7/4 with bet365

Colchester dropped into League Two’s bottom two after the postponement of their scheduled midweek fixture against Doncaster but they can respond by defeating Walsall at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Danny Cowley arrived as Colchester’s head coach in January and has made them more competitive.

The Essex outfit have won one, drawn six and lost two of their matches under Cowley, who has longer-term aims to get the club competing towards the top of the division.

For now it is all about survival and Colchester can defeat Walsall, who have suffered a dip in performance.

The injury-hit Saddlers have taken just one point from their last two games and they could struggle this weekend.

Hoffenheim v Stuttgart – Stuttgart at 17/20 with bet365

Stuttgart are in an excellent position to make the Champions League places in the Bundesliga and they can pick up another win on the road to Hoffenheim.

The visitors have recorded an impressive 17 wins from 25 matches – just one less than Bayern Munich – with six of those victories coming since the start of the year.

Hoffenheim, meanwhile, have blown hot and cold all season and will be without both John Brooks and Ozan Kabak after they were sent off in the 3-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.

William Maxwell

Swansea v Cardiff – Cardiff at 14/5 with bet365

The South Wales derby takes centre stage in the Championship and visitors Cardiff look in strong form to take all three points from their bitter rivals.

The Bluebirds have won four of their last five – drawing the other – and have kept three clean sheets in the process, including against Swansea’s relegation rivals Huddersfield and Blackburn.

The Swan’s are in need of victory to pull away from the drop zone, but three league wins across their last 11 does not breed too much optimism for the hosts and, after losing the reverse fixture 2-0 in September, another damaging defeat could be on the cards.
