Irish Open predictions with 10/1, 50/1 & 66/1 tips

There is no PGA Tour action this week but the DP World Tour action continues at the Irish Open at the K Club in County Kildare, best known for hosting the 2016 Ryder Cup.

Rory McIlroy is teeing it up in his home Open and dominates the betting ahead of his Ryder Cup teammates Tyrrell Hatton and Shane Lowry.

We’ve called on Racing & Football Outlook golf tipster Joe Champion for his thoughts ahead of the tournament and he has obliged with a 10/1 outright tip as well as 50/1 and 66/1 each-way options.

Irish Open predictions & betting tips

Irish Open best bet – Tyrrell Hatton to win

McIlroy won the Irish Open on the only occasion it was staged at the K Club, prevailing by three shots in 2016, but when we last saw him he was nursing a bad back at the Tour Championship.

The Northern Irishman was still able to finish 11th out of 30 elite names in 72-hole scoring at East Lake and his health appeared to improve over the weekend.

However, preference is for Hatton, who has been remarkably consistent from the Masters onwards, finishing no worse than 43rd in his last 13 events, all of which were either PGA Tour events or Major championships.

Accurate approaches have been the key to success at the K Club with Philip Price and Kennie Ferrie both ranking first in greens in regulation at the 2003 and 2005 European Opens, while McIlroy did likewise in 2016.

Hatton has gained strokes with his irons on six of his last seven appearances, striking them well when sixth at the Scottish Open and again when finishing 20th at the Open, and he opened up with a 64 at the Tour Championship when last seen.

A 16th-place East Lake finish, one shot better than Jon Rahm, was more than respectable and Hatton returns to the K Club as an elite operator having finished fifth in the 2016 Irish Open when ranked outside the top 100.

Irish Open each-way Tip 1 – Yannik Paul each-way at 50/1

Yannik Paul was unfortunate to miss out on a place in Luke Donald’s Ryder Cup team, failing to catch Robert MacIntyre for an automatic place, but he battled on well in Switzerland, finishing 20th despite an over-par Friday round.

Paul has been one of the best iron-players on the DP World Tour this season – only Alex Bjork has better strokes-gained-approach numbers – and the K Club looks a good fit.

Irish Open each-way Tip 2 – Eddie Pepperell each-way at 66/1

Eddie Pepperell has enjoyed an encouraging return to form in recent outings, finishing third at the ISPS Handa World Invitational and eighth at Crans. His irons, in particular, have been firing and he was eighth at the K Club in 2016.
