Premier League 2025/26 Team Guides: Brighton

This article is part of our team-by-team guide to the 2025/26 Premier League season.

Season review
It’s illustrative of how far Brighton have come that their success this season seems to have flown under the radar.
The Seagulls recorded their second-highest finish in their history. They ended just a point shy of the total Roberto De Zerbi’s side had when they qualified for Europe in 2023.
That’s a strong debut season for Fabian Hurzeler, especially as the 32-year-old coach took time to get his ideas across.
They started with an incredibly aggressive defensive line, something Hurzeler was known for at St Pauli. The Seagulls averaged 4.8 offsides per game through their first six matches, but that dropped to 1.8 for the remainder of the season after a mauling by Cole Palmer.
While the Seagulls ranked fifth for goals scored, only six teams in the league conceded more goals.
Hurzeler’s side proved capable of mixing it with some of the best sides in the division, but they won only two of six clashes with a dreadful bottom three.
The campaign did finish on a positive note, with Brighton picking up the third-most points across the final 14 matches. The Seagulls won four of their final five games to secure eighth.
When you consider the club had a raft of new signings and the second-highest number of injuries in the league, their success is even more impressive. When you consider their progress this year, along with the fact that their squad is the second-youngest in the league, missing out on Europe this year could set them up for success next term.
Key stat: Brighton picked up nine points against the top three sides in the league, but only won 10 of 18 available points against the bottom three
Transfer window preview
Brighton had one of the biggest transfer outlays in Europe last summer, so spending is likely to be reduced this time around.
The Seagulls look safe from any long-running transfer sagas, but departures will be a key part of their summer.
Karou Mitoma is heading into the final two years of his contract, while Bart Verbruggen and Joao Pedro continue to be linked with moves.
Evan Ferguson’s future is cloudy following his struggles at West Ham, while Tariq Lamptey and James Milner are out of contract.
Brighton have already completed some early business. Stefanos Tzimas joined in February before finishing the season on loan at Nurnberg. Championship play-off final hero Tommy Watson agreed a £10million move from Sunderland in April.
