Season review
The first half of Everton’s season was one to forget as Sean Dyche led the club on a torrid run, eventually culminating in his departure from the club in early January.
This opened the door for a comeback for David Moyes, and the return of the Scotsman proved a catalyst for a dramatic uptick in form for the Toffees.
They picked up 30 of their 48 points following their reunion with Moyes, with their only defeats in their last 18 league games coming against teams who finished in the top four.
Perhaps just as important as this strong finish was the winning send-off they gave to Goodison Park in the penultimate game of the season, beating Southampton 2-0 before moving to their new stadium next season.
Transfer window preview
Despite starting just seven games this season, Everton have already activated an option to purchase Carlos Alcaraz from Flamengo, with the 22-year-old signing for an estimated £13 million.
However, Toffees fans may have to temper expectations for the rest of the summer, with football finance expert Kieran Maguire estimating a net transfer spend of between £50m and £100m.
With Ashley Young, Asmir Begovic, Joao Virginia, and Abdoulaye Doucoure all confirmed to exit the club after their contract expires, and Idriss Gueye, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Michael Keane, and Seamus Coleman all out of contract, there is a lot that needs to be done with a relatively small budget.
Not only that, but a number of loan players will also return to their parent clubs, cutting David Moyes’ senior squad to just 13 players.
A number of names have been floated around as potential arrivals, including a switch across Merseyside for Ben Doak, while Moyes is reportedly targeting a right back, right winger, midfielder, and a striker as top priorities.
One of his main tasks will be to fend off interest in Jarrad Branthwaite, with Moyes keen to build his squad around the trio of Branthwaite, James Tarkowski, and Jordan Pickford.
