Season review
Leeds suffered heartache at the end of the 2023/24 campaign as they missed out on automatic promotion after a dip in form and then lost out in the Championship play-off final. The Elland Road club responded in style last season, winning the title to secure a return to the Premier League after a two-year absence.
The Whites endured a mixed start to the campaign with back-to-back draws to open the season. Leeds won just four of their first nine league games but they dominated from that point on and in the second half of the campaign they only spent two weeks off top spot.
The battle for the top two spots was largely a three-way fight between Leeds, Burnley and Sheffield United. The Blades fell away at the end, but Leeds and the Clarets went into the final round of games locked on 97 points. Both teams won their final fixtures – meaning Leeds were crowned champions on 100 points by virtue of a superior goal difference.
Joe Piroe finished as the club’s leading scorer with 19 goals, all of which came in the league.
Key stat: Leeds’ haul of 100 points was their highest ever total in a league season.
Transfer window preview
Manager Daniel Farke will be looking to strengthen in all areas after guiding Leeds to the Championship title.
The club have been heavily linked with both Strasbourg’s Senegal international midfielder Habib Diarra and Udinese defender Jaka Bijol.
Goalkeeper Illan Meslier is expected to depart Elland Road this summer and a couple of replacements have been suggested, including Southampton’s Aaron Ramsdale.
Leeds may also look to raid a few of their former Championship rivals with Jack Rudoni of Coventry City and Middlesbrough’s Finn Azaz reported to be among their targets.
