Season review
Last season proved to be a season to forget for West Ham as they ended up in the lower end of mid-table in the Premier League and failed to make an impact in the cup competitions.
The season began with a home defeat to Aston Villa and a run of just one win in their first five games set the tone for the campaign. The Hammers were never any higher than ninth in the standings, but they didn’t fall into the drop zone at any point either.
Julen Lopetegui was axed in January and replaced by former Brighton and Chelsea boss Graham Potter, but results didn’t particularly improve as he won just five of his 18 league games in charge.
Potter will remain in the hot seat going into the new season but may well find himself under pressure quickly if the Hammers struggle at the start of the campaign.
Key stat: Jarrod Bowen has been West Ham’s top scorer or joint top scorer in the Premier League in each of the last four seasons.
Transfer window preview
West Ham winger Mohammed Kudus could find himself in the lead role in a transfer saga this summer. Kudus is keen to depart and the Hammers are open to offers, but the club’s reported £50million asking price may prove to be a stumbling block.
There have been a number of departures already as Kurt Zouma, Aaron Cresswell, Vladimír Coufal and Danny Ings have departed as free agents.
West Ham have signed defender Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice and they will be looking to make further additions, and if Kudus does depart they will be able to be a bit more adventurous in terms of their own targets.
