Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk prediction and fight preview

There are so many variables going into this huge heavyweight fight that it feels like anything could happen.

Tyson is clearly the best technical boxer Oleksandr Usyk will have faced as a heavyweight, but Usyk if the best boxer Fury will have faced in his career.

Can Usyk find a way to cope with Fury’s obvious physical advantages? Will the Ukrainian be too quick for the WBC champion? These are the sorts of questions that will only be answered when the dust has settled, but personally I just think Usyk is too good for anyone in the division and I expect him to find a way to win despite Fury’s size and power advantages.

If Fury manages to pin him down and get his shots away he could end it in one go, but I doubt he’ll get that chance. Usyk is perhaps the most intelligent active fighter and he has an uncanny ability of perfectly preparing for each test that comes his way – and make no mistake, he will have a plan for Fury.

Quicker men than Fury have entered the ring with Usyk and been unable to land anything of note, while the Gypsy King’s defence is at times questionable as both Deontay Wilder and Francis Ngannou have shown previously. In terms of technical ability, Wilder and Ngannou are nowhere near Usyk – so the man occasionally known as The Cat should be able to create a few openings on Saturday night.

It is of course a big ask for Usyk and if Fury is at his very best the Ukrainian could be in real trouble, but Usyk’s superior skill and incredible movement gives him the upper hand.

Saturday’s Boxing Accumulator

Usyk to wins vs Fury

Joe Cordina to win by decision or technical decision
Vs Anthony Cacace

Joe Cordina puts his IBF super featherweight title on the line in a bid to claim Anthony Cacace’s IBO belt. Cordina is unbeaten after 17 fights and has nine wins inside the distance – but he will probably need the judges against Cacace. Five of Cordina’s last seven wins have been on points, and Cacace has just one defeat on his record after 22 fights and has never been stopped.

Jai Opetaia to win by KO, TKO or Disqualification
Vs Maris Briedis

Jai Opetaia won on points when he first faced Maris Briedis back in 2022 but the Australian has picked up two stoppage wins since, while Briedis has been inactive. If Briedis was in his prime this could be a stern test for Opetaia, 28, but the Latvian is now 39 and could be stopped for the first time in his career this weekend against an unbeaten opponent with 19 stoppages in 24 fights.

Frank Sanchez to win by KO, TKO or Disqualification
Vs Agit Kabayel

The heavyweight match-up between unbeaten pair Agit Kabayel and Frank Sanchez has the potential to be the most entertaining bout on the card. Both men are 24-0 and both have reputations as knockout specialists, with Sanchez stopping 17 of his opponents and Kabayel 16. Sanchez has perhaps faced the higher standard of opposition and that may give gim a crucial edge, so take the Cuban to win inside the distance.
