Aspinall vs Gane prediction and fight preview

Tom Aspinall to win by KO, TKO or DQ

Tom Aspinall has left a trail of destruction behind him so far in the UFC as he rose to the Heavyweight title.

Nine fights into his UFC tenure, the 32-year-old has eight wins, six by knockout, with the other two coming via submission.

Aspinall has the shortest fight time of anyone on the roster, with his total Octagon time still shy of four full rounds.

The only defeat on the Greater Manchester fighter’s UFC ledger is to Curtis Blaydes, with Aspinall suffering a fight-ending knee injury just 15 seconds into the contest.

That was avenged in style in Manchester last July, with Aspinall recording a knockout win in sixty seconds.

Only once has the Englishman seen the second round, with his interim title win against Sergei Pavlovich another that was done early, this time within seventy seconds.

His opponent Ciryl Gane is a former interim champion with a 10-2 UFC record and two failed attempts at undisputed gold behind him.

First losing to Francis Ngannou in 2022, before being easily submitted by Jon Jones for the vacant belt a year later.

Inactivity has plagued both men of late, Aspinall struggled to get Jones to the table, let alone the cage, while Gane has sought out-of-octagon opportunities in the form of acting and modelling.

Both men move differently to other heavyweights, more fleet-footed and athletic than their sheer size suggests; but while Gane is an agile counterstriker, Aspinall possesses speed and huge power.

Gane has struggled at the top level with his grappling, and even in his last outing, a controversial win over Alexander Volkov, the holes in his game were still evident.

In contrast, Aspinall has excellent grappling and jiu-jitsu and could well take this to the ground.

Whichever way the fight lands, it feels like Aspinall has the edge and could well walk away with another stoppage win.

Tom Aspinall to win by KO, TKO, DQ or Submission – 1/1

Alexander Volkov to win

Alexander Volkov looks more than a solid underdog against Jailton Almeida.

The Russian’s four fight win streak was broken last December with a controversial split decision loss to Ciryl Gane.

Standing at 6”7, Volkov has improved in all areas since moving to train in Las Vegas and his kickboxing could be problematic for a grappler like Almedia if he can’t take the fight to the ground.

Volkov’s sheer size makes him a tricky customer for all styles, while Almeida failed in his first step up to top five class against Curtis Blaydes and this looks a trickier assignment.

Ikram Aliskerov to win by KO, TKO

Ikram Aliskerov can make another statement when he faces Jun Yong Park on the prelims.

The 32-year-old has three first-round finishes to his name

Aliskerov has three first-round stoppages so far in the UFC, while his only defeat came when stepping up to face former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker at just days’ notice last June.

Park has a come-forward style with solid grappling, but has yet to find a finish on the feet in nine UFC wins, and that will give Aliskerov even more confidence in his striking.

Aliskerov feels beyond this level of competition already, and his power advantage in the stand-up and supreme combat sambo grappling is tipping the scales in favour of another finish.
