Leyton Orient are doing their best to fill the void left by football’s enforced absence, and their innovative 128-team #UltimateQuaranTeam FIFA Tournament has been generating plenty of excitement.

Initially floated as an idea to stave off the boredom from social distancing and isolation, Orient’s inspirational idea went viral last week, and now supporters everywhere are tuning in to watch clubs from across the globe compete to be crowned as the inaugural #UltimateQuaranTeam champion.

What is #UltimateQuaranTeam?

Simply put, it’s a FIFA tournament involving representatives from football clubs across the globe. It’s being orchestrated by the Leyton Orient Twitter account and consists of 128 teams, with the end goal being to crown the inaugural (and hopefully final) Ultimate Quaran-Team Champion.

The tournament itself will be played on PS4 and each club will be encouraged to stream the match on Twitch. Fixtures will be played over one knockout game (none of that two-legged fiasco here) and will use 85-rated squads in the interest of fairness.

You can read about the #UltimateQuaranTeam tournament in much more detail in our guide which details everything you need to know about Leyton Orient’s FIFA tournament.

Elsewhere there was more good news for Dutch clubs when dark horses Millwall were dumped out by VVV Venlo, while PSV ran riot against Ross County, running out 6-3 winners after an exciting tussle.

There are a number of Round 64 fixtures also scheduled to be played later today (25th). Make sure to check back for updates!

Two of the pre-tournament favourites, Sheffield Wednesday and Manchester City, had bumpier rides though the first round than many had anticipated.

The Citizens, with Shaun Springette (PS4 name xShellzz) behind the controls, had to come from behind to earn a 1-1 draw and a replay against Kortijk, though xShellzz eventually showed his class in the second game, earning a comfortable 3-0 win.

Sheffield Wednesday, represented by pro-gamer Delee, had to battle hard to oust Cambridge in a narrow 2-1 triumph.

Elsewhere, another punter’s pre-tournament favourite Angers ran riot against Irish side Waterford, hitting double figures in a humiliating 10-0 evisceration. Ouch.

Another French club, Nantes drafted in a ringer in four times FIFA World Champion Bruce Grannac just before the tournament kicked off, though Les Canaris barely squeezed past Swindon in the opening round, narrowly ousting Town 2-1.
