Werder Bremen vs Bayer Leverkusen - How to watch on TV and live stream and possible lineups
Born in the south east of Ireland, Simon put his life-long love of football to good use when he started a successful independent blog in 2010. That opened up an alternative route to a career in journalism, and having had work published across a number of sites and publications, Simon joined the staff at Spotlight Sports Group in 2018.
Werder Bremen host Bayer Leverkusen at the Weserstadion on Monday evening hoping to gather the points they need to reignite their Bundesliga survival hopes.
Die Werderaner are floundering just one place above bottom in the German top-flight and with nine points between them and safety, they are running out of time to avoid their first relegation since 1980.
For Peter Bosz’s talented Bayer Leverkusen outfit, Champions League qualification is the aim in 2019/20, and having watched RB Leipzig drop points at home to Freiburg on Saturday, Die Werkself have an opportunity to cut the gap between them and fourth spot to just one point in Bremen.
Werder and Bayer played out a thrilling 2-2 draw when they last met in the reverse Bundesliga fixture between the clubs in October – and Monday’s rematch promises to be just as enthralling.

Dutch midfielder Davy Klassen is suspended having picked up his fifth yellow card of the season just before the Bundesliga’s postponement.
Veteran centre-forward Claudio Pizarro misses out with a muscle injury, as does Swedish international Ludwig Augustinsson.
Davie Selke makes a welcome return up front however and will battle it out with Josh Sargent for a starting role, while keeper Jiri Pavlenka is fit again after an adductor issue and should start in goal.
Nicals Fullkrug’s recent knee operation means he will miss the rest of the current season.
Bayer Levekusen team news and injuries
Bayer coach Peter Bosz has almost a full complement of players to choose from this week.
Forward Kevin Volland is Leverkusen’s only major injury absentee. The key attacker will likely miss the rest of the 309/20 campaign with an ankle injury.
Julian Baumgartlinger and Daley Sinkgraven are both fit again and in contention for a midfield berth, while promising centre half Edmond Tapsoba could be favoured at centre-half after his excellent performances before the break.
