1860 Munich vs Kaiserslautern Predictions
1860 Munich are now six matches without a win at home to FC Kaiserslautern in the Allianz Arena. Despite poor form and recent head-2-head trends being against them, Munich are, nonetheless, the bookies’ favourites ahead of this match at around 5/4. However, we feel Kaiserslautern are the better bet here for the following reasons:
Following an awful start to the season under new coach Tayfun Korkut, Kaiserslautern have regained some ground with three consecutive league wins over a series of difficult fixtures just before the international break – a 3-0 and 1-0 win over mid-table sides Bochum and Greuther Furth followed by a 1-0 win over (then) top four side Union Berlin. This is exactly the momentum Kaiserslautern needed to start moving them back up towards their projected top half finish.
Meanwhile, 1860 Munich have seen themselves heading in the opposite direction with five defeats from their last six league matches leaving them just outside of the relegation zone. With Kaiserslautern priced at an extremely reasonable 21/10, we feel that a bet on draw or Kaiserslautern double chance at 4/6 has to be one of the safest and best value bets going here based on form alone. The argument for backing the visitors only gets stronger when considering meetings between the two sides in recent years – Kaiserslautern have won or drawn in 12 of the last 13 meetings (92%) between them since 2008 (W7 D5 L1).
Kaiserslautern, though the second joint lowest scoring team in the 2. Bundesliga have, unbelievably, also conceded the joint second fewest goals in the division (12 goals). For a team placed lower down the table in 12th, this is a remarkable feat which has seen plenty of their matches end with under 2.5 goals (see statistics). Combining this with the head-2-head trend of recent low-scoring outcomes between Munich and Kaiserslautern (see statistics), a bet on under 2.5 goals here at 7/10 wouldn’t be a bad shout either.
Munich have conceded two or more in all of their last nine league matches and exactly two in seven of these. As such, despite Kaiserslautern’s infrequency in scoring two or more this season – just two of their 10 matches so far (20%) – we feel it’s also justifiable to back them for a 2-0 win here at odds of 14/1 for a correct score bet.
