Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

New AC Milan boss Max Allegri isn’t exactly known an attacking manager and the Rossoneri’s Serie A opener is unlikely to be a spectacle. Both Milan and Cremonese’s Coppa Italia games last weekend saw fewer than three goals scored and the under appeals again.

AC Milan 2-0

Reason for tip

Although a convincing win is unlikely, Max Allegri knows how to grind out points and Milan should take all three against promoted opposition. New Cremonese manager Davide Nicola saw his Cagliari side scored just 44 goals in 41 games last season, so expect them to blank at San Siro.

AC Milan vs Cremonese Predictions

  • Just one of Milan’s last four matches have gone over 2.5 goals
  • New Cremonese manager Davide Nicola saw his Cagliari side scored just 44 goals in 41 games last season
  • Both of these teams played Coppa Italia games with fewer than three goals last weekend

Milan may be frustrated by visitors

Paulo Fonseca was meant to be the man to turn AC Milan’s fortunes but both he and his mid-season replacement Sergio Conceicao failed to find any consistency last term, with the Rossoneri eventually finishing a lowly eighth in Serie A.

With their foreign imports failing, Milan have turned to a familiar face to steady the ship – Massimiliano Allegri, who led them to the title in 2011 before his trophy-filled spell with Juventus.

However, it should not be forgotten that Juve struggled in the later years of Allegri’s reign, finishing fourth twice and seventh once in his final three seasons, and big departures mean it may take a while for Milan to get going.

Cremonese can avoid a San Siro hammering

Theo Hernandez and Tijjani Reijnders will be tough to replace and, in particular, they are lacking obvious firepower up front, with Christian Pulisic, Santaigo Gimenez and Rafael Leao hardly prolific striking options.

Milan opened their campaign with a 2-0 Coppa Italia win over Serie B Bari last weekend and it may have to be another narrow victory when they take on Cremonese in their league opener on Saturday.

Cremonese came up through the playoffs but parted ways with manager Giovanni Stroppa. His replacement, Davide Nicola, is not exactly known for his attacking style – his Cagliari scored just 40 Serie A goals last term – and he will look to frustrate Milan rather than break through them.

That will not suit Allegri, whose strengths also lie in coaching a defence and not an attack, making the under an appealing bet at San Siro.
