Tip Reasoning

  • Everton have conceded in 83% of their league games
  • United have scored in their last 16 Premier League trips
  • The Red Devils’ last seven away games have seen both teams score
  • Everton have lost nine of 12 meetings with teams placed tenth or above

Everton’s struggles continue

A 3-2 loss at Burnley on Wednesday night has left Everton just a point clear of the relegation zone going into this weekend. Frank Lampard’s side can’t seem to get their act together, with five defeats in their last six.

Winning their home games will be crucial, but Everton have a tough task on their hands this weekend. Manchester United may not be in the greatest shape, but the Red Devils have lost only one of their last 13 clashes with the Toffees.

Defensive issues to cost Toffees

Everton can’t seem to get organised under Lampard, having conceded 15 times across their last six matches. The former Chelsea boss has never really had a reputation for getting his teams organised, but he’s also working with a poor crop of players.

Rafa Benitez never really got them sorted out at the back either, with the Toffees conceding in 83% of their Premier League games this term. They’ve conceded in 11 of their 12 meetings with teams in the top half, so it’s hard to see them holding off a United side who have scored at least once in each of their last 16 away games in the league.

Hosts’ rotten run to continue

United may be impressing on the road, but they’re also conceding too many goals. The visitors have seen both teams score in 79% of their away trips this season, while each of their last seven games in all competitions have seen both teams find the net.

Everton have scored 19 times in their 14 home games this season and they’ve seen both teams score in six of their last seven meetings with United. With both defences looking vulnerable, both teams to score is my first selection here.

While United aren’t in great shape, they should prove too strong for an Everton side who have been awful this season. The hosts have lost seven of 14 home games and nine of 12 clashes with teams in the top-half. United need to keep their top four chase up with a win here and I’m backing them for a 2-1 victory.

Everton predicted lineup: Pickford; Coleman, Holgate, Keane, Kenny; Gordon, Allan, Doucoure, Iwobi; Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin

Manchester United predicted lineup: De Gea; Dalot, Maguire, Varane, Telles; Fernandes, McTominay, Fred; Rashford, Ronaldo, Sancho
