AC Milan vs Inter Milan Predictions
- Nine of the last 11 games to feature Inter Milan have seen both teams net.
- AC Milan have conceded more goals in their last four Serie A games (three) than in their previous 11 (two).
- Four of the last five league meetings between the two Milan giants have contained goals at both ends.
- Inter have not failed to score in a Serie A match since a draw with Genoa in February – 16 games ago.
Derby della Madonnina already huge
Neither AC Milan nor rivals Inter Milan have made perfect starts to the new Serie A campaign, taking eight and nine points respectively from their first four outings, and Saturday’s derby clash already looks like being crucial in the Scudetto race. With Milan edging out Inter by just two points last term but flattering to deceive since the restart, this game appears to be balanced on a knife-edge, and punters may be best served by backing goals.
Indeed, an incredible run of nine clean sheets from their final 11 matches drove the Rossoneri to the title last season, but they have conceded more goals in their first four games of this campaign (three) than they did in that run (two). Milan have not suffered a league defeat since January and have a 100 per cent record in home games this term, but went down 3-0 to Inter in April’s Coppa Italia semi-finals and are without a clean sheet in their last eight league meetings with their rivals.
Inter, meanwhile, bounced back from their 3-1 defeat at Lazio by cruising past Cremonese on Tuesday, but nine of their last 11 matches have seen goals at both ends as their defensive lapses continue. Indeed, the Nerazzurri, whose nine goals this season are bettered only by Napoli (10) in Serie A, last failed to score in a league match in February, but could be troubled by Rafael Leao and company – four of the last five league derbies have seen both teams net.
Both sides can net in San Siro classic
Inter and Milan are the second and third highest scoring teams in Serie A this season and have created the second and fourth highest expected goals (xG) tallies in the league, respectively. Given the duo’s attacking qualities, backing both to net on Saturday looks a smart play.
Meanwhile, Inter have a fine record in recent derbies, winning seven of the last 11, but will be without talismanic striker Romelu Lukaku through injury. That blow could prevent them taking the three points, and a 1-1 draw may represent a decent correct score prediction.
