Tip Reasoning

  • Liverpool have nine wins in their last 13 away games.
  • The Reds have just three clean sheets in their last 14 trips.
  • Palace have only failed to score in one of their 11 home games, a 0-0 draw in their first match of the season at Selhurst Park.
  • Diogo Jota has 10 goals in 20 Premier League games and scored twice against Arsenal in midweek.

Liverpool face Palace test after booking EFL Cup final spot

Liverpool should head to Selhurst Park in buoyant mood on Sunday after securing a place in the EFL Cup final with a 2-0 win over Arsenal in midweek but they may not have it all their own way against Crystal Palace.

The Reds are still missing AFCON trio Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita. Boss Jurgen Klopp has a couple of other concerns as well as Divock Origi and Thiago Alcantara are expected to miss out, although there is a chance Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could be involved.

Palace talisman Wilfried Zaha is at AFCON with Ivory Coast and James McArthur and James Tomkins are injured.

Palace good for a goal at home

Liverpool may be missing two key forwards but they still have real quality in attack in the shape of Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino. The visitors have won three of their last four games and should be able to pick up all three points in the capital this weekend, but Palace can at least get on the scoresheet.

The Reds have managed three clean sheets in a row but the Eagles have been in good form in front of goal. Palace have only failed to score in one of their last seven games, registering 13 goals in total during that run, and they have scored in each of their last 10 at Selhurst Park after drawing a blank in a 0-0 draw with Brentford in their first home game of the season.

Liverpool have won nine of their last 13 away games but have only managed three shut-outs in their last 14 trips, so an away win with both teams to score has appeal here.

Don’t expect Reds to run riot

The visitors don’t carry the same attacking threat without Salah and Mane and Palace have only conceded more than twice in one of their home games. As such, I’m not expecting Liverpool to run away with this one and a 2-1 win for the visitors has a chance in the correct score market.

Finally, Jota ended a four-game scoring drought with a double against Arsenal and he looks a contender for a goal at anytime at Palace. The former Wolves man has 10 goals in 20 Premier League outings this term and can add to his account against a Palace side who have just one clean sheet in their last 10 games.

Crystal Palace predicted lineup: Butland, Ward, Andersen, Guehi, Mitchell, Schlupp, Hughes, Gallagher, Olise, Edouard, Eze

Liverpool predicted lineup: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Fabinho, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jota, Firmino, Minamino
