Tip Reasoning

  • AC Milan remain unbeaten at home in Serie A, winning 5 of 6 games and averaging over 2 goals per game at San Siro.
  • Sassuolo have scored 11 and conceded 12 in 6 away games this season.
  • Sassuolo are winless in their last 3 Serie A games, which have featured an average of 4 goals each.

Milan Looking to Get Back on Track

Milan’s unbeaten start to the Serie A campaign was halted in incredible fashion last week, as they lost 4-3 at Fiorentina in a madcap game, where Pioli’s team went 3-0 down before threatening to stage an unlikely comeback. Milan responded in superb fashion in midweek, winning their do-or-die Champions League clash at Atletico Madrid to give themselves a chance of qualifying for the knockout stage.

Results have dried up for Sassuolo since they won at Juventus with the last kick of the game on 27th October; Alessio Dionisi’s team are winless in 3 Serie A games, but are still providing entertainment; those games featured an average of 4 goals, but Sassuolo will have been bitterly disappointed with a 3-2 loss to out-of-sorts Udinese and a 2-2 home draw with relegation-threatened Cagliari.

Nobody has kept a clean sheet against Sassuolo since mid-September, and though Milan will fancy their chances of getting their title charge back on track here, they have only kept one clean sheet in their last 9 Serie A matches.

Goals Likely, but Rossoneri Should Have Enough?

Dionisi’s Sassuolo have retained the commitment to attacking football instilled by his predecessor Roberto De Zerbi, and after finding the net against Roma, Atalanta, Inter and, of course, in that dramatic win over Juve, will be confident of troubling the Rossoneri here.

Milan are likely to have the indomitable Zlatan Ibrahimovic available for this game after he struggled in midweek; the Swede netted twice in his team’s loss in Florence last weekend. Milan’s attacking firepower should be enough to give them the edge over their wide-open visitors, who concede, on average, 2 goals per Serie A away trip.

With entertainment always likely when Sassuolo are involved, I’m backing Milan to win and both teams to score. For those who fancy a bit of a punt on the correct score markets, a thrilling 3-2 home win is not an outlandish correct score prediction for Sunday’s meeting of two of Italy’s most watchable teams.
