Adelaide United vs Melbourne Victory Predictions

  • Melbourne have won two of their first three league games.
  • Adelaide have drawn each of their first three matches.
  • Melbourne are yet to concede a goal this season with 11 players on the pitch.

Melbourne looking to get back to winning ways

Victory were the only side to win each of their first two matches but after Spanish midfielder Rai was sent off in first-half injury time last weekend, they crashed to a 3-0 defeat in the second period against Perth Glory. Nonetheless, they are third and just one point off top spot at this early stage.

Melbourne won at Western United in their opening game of the season before a comfortable 3-0 victory over bottom-placed Brisbane Roar. They lost nine of their 13 matches on the road last season but Melbourne’s win on the opening weekend demonstrated their newfound quality and they are yet to concede a goal with the full complement of players on the pitch.

Adelaide yet to record first win

Three games into the season, Adelaide United are yet to record their first win but they are unbeaten thanks to three consecutive draws at the beginning of this campaign. Adelaide have won all three meetings with Melbourne in 2021 but there is no question that this is a much tougher test.  They won seven of their 13 home games last term and have lost just one of their last 11 hence why I think it will be a score draw here as opposed to a win for the visitors.

Melbourne were on a four-game winning run prior to last weekend but I’m backing them to bounce back with a point here. I’m going to predict a 1-1 draw given that both teams have scored in two of the hosts’ first three matches. Melbourne are averaging 1.33 goals per game and conceding one a game while Adelaide have scored and conceded three goals across their first three matches.
